Reviews for My Summer Away
Guest chapter 30 . 1/7/2017
This story was so good! I'm glad to see there's a sequel to it and I already started reading it!
reppad98 chapter 30 . 3/28/2016
And so Dawn has made her choice. Of course it wasn't really a surprise she picked Paul, but I still feel somewhat bad for Kenny. I guess that just means you succeeded in writing him as a nice and good character. And he waited at her house to see her again, and Dawn just breaks the news to him and he kicked her mailbox and awww haha, I do feel bad for him (though the mailbox thing was funny). Still, I guess it's better Dawn told him in person and right away instead of waiting or just calling him.
Anyway, so, I'm all caught up again and the story is finished. Well done! You can be really proud of yourself for writing and completing this story :D It was a good story, I enjoyed reading it. It does have some points which could be better, as I pointed out in my reviews, but I still enjoyed it, and I will definitely read the sequel. My apologies if I sounded nitpicky or mean in my reviews, it was never my intention to offend or hurt you. So, yeah, thank you for writing and finishing this story, and now I'm off to read the sequel :D Keep writing!
reppad98 chapter 29 . 3/28/2016
Leaf is indeed supposed to be the smart one, and it's horrible that she leaves her friends like this, but on the other hand, it's good that she didn't tell them where she went, because that way her friends won't have to feel guilty for keeping her secret. I do think that Leaf should have told the girls' about her engagement, it might have helped them understand her choice better.
I like the contrast between the girls' and the guys' reactions haha. Maybe the girls are taking this a bit too seriously, and the boys are perhaps a bit too relaxed haha.
I had to chuckle at how Drew tries to sound threatening and May just says that it just creates an awkward image haha. And it's good that May is considering telling more people and going to a counselor.
Thank you for updating, I'll read the very last chapter soon, and keep writing!
reppad98 chapter 28 . 3/28/2016
Leaf and Gary... Their story, of having their lives planned out and the engagement and all, feels a bit like forced drama to me. I like that you made Professor Oak the good guy, though. And I do have the feeling that Gary and Leaf are envisioning their future a bit too bright: if it's really as bad as they say, they won't see their family again, and that will undoubtedly be hard on them, and a music career won't be that easy as they think now. It's kind of bittersweet, too, because they really seem to think that the two of them can work it, but they're only eighteen, they're taking money from their parents, and they might be smart, but they still ran off with someone they only knew for a few months and gave up everything they knew, their family and a safe future, for something like that. Their story is the sequel, not? That'll be interesting.
Samantha opening up to Dawn like that is a bit odd as well. I mean, it's not bad, but it feels a bit rushed to me.
Anyway, thank you for updating, I'll read the next chapter soon, and keep writing!
reppad98 chapter 27 . 3/28/2016
At first, I thought that perhaps it was strange that the girls weren't more interested in Leaf's reasons for turning down Gary, but on the other hand, if they think Leaf is just picky... And maybe they do expect something more is going on, but I'm pretty sure no one is going to guess engagement...
I hadn't expected Kenny to be so understanding, but this does make it more difficult for Dawn to break it off. It also makes me feel bad for Kenny, because despite his understanding, Dawn still continues getting closer to Paul, and she /knows/ she's getting too close. She should make a decision, otherwise it's unfair to both Kenny and Paul.
Alright, we finally have an explanation for why the rival girls acted the way they did, I actually hadn't expected an explanation besides them just wanting to get with the boys, so that's nice. Still, if Samantha really hated Dawn for stealing away their father, she made a turn-around pretty quick, that was a bit unrealistic. Plus, Dawn just heard her father had an affair and then went back to her mother, so I'm not sure how her relationship is with him, but I had expected a bit more of a reaction to that as well. But that might still come, she probably hasn't realized that yet.
Thank you for updating, I'll read the next chapter soon, and keep writing!
reppad98 chapter 26 . 3/28/2016
Grass Pokémon and green do fit Leaf pretty well haha, those were nice presents.
After all that Paul went through, he's pretty lucky that he still has normal friends like Gary, Ash and Drew. Interesting backstory, and I can imagine Paul telling Dawn it. The confession afterwards was perhaps a bit too fast, but maybe he said because of the emotion of the moment and all.
Leaf wants to be a nurse? That's uh, surprising, with how smart she is I'd think she would want to become a doctor, then. And she's engaged to someone? Is that even legal? Yeah, I definitely hadn't expected this... I'm surprised she went along with it, she doesn't seem like the girl to just listen to unreasonable requests from her parents...
Anyway, thank you for updating, I'll get to the next chapter soon, and keep writing!
reppad98 chapter 25 . 3/28/2016
Paul does have a good point, the girls don't own the guys, so it's not like the rival girls can 'steal' them away. It's nice to see more interactions between Paul and Dawn, but I still had the feeling it went up and down too fast. First they were talking about clothes, nice and normal, then Dawn starts accusing Paul of sleeping with Samantha, they pretty much have a fight, and then it ends with Paul admitting that he cares about Dawn. That just went a bit too fast, in my opinion.
I don't think that, despite her dislike for Kenny, that May would help Dawn in cheating on Kenny with Paul. She wouldn't tell Dawn not to do it, I think, but she also wouldn't encourage it, definitely not. I think it would go against her morals.
Although it's nice to see Dawn and Paul becoming closer, sometimes the desciptions are a bit over-the-top in my opinion. [He felt the warmth of her body against his, and it seemed to spread through his arm and side until it reached his cold, hard, lonely heart.] I mean, the scene is written from Paul's point of view, and I don't think he would consider his own heart cold, hard and lonely... Just my opinion, though.
Thank you for updating, I'll read the next chapter soon, and keep writing!
reppad98 chapter 24 . 3/28/2016
Ah yes, Dawn is finally getting somewhere with Paul. He did give in easily, but perhaps that just means he really wants to be helped. Oh, I had almost forgotten about Kenny. I understand that Dawn wants to get this off of her chest, but an email is so impersonal to tell Kenny something big like this.
That's a good solution, returning the jewels. I was already thinking that perhaps they would go to the police at some point, but this is a good solution as well. And haha, Paul's progress, no grunting or saying negative things, that made me smile.
Thank you for updating, I'll get to the next chapter soon, and keep writing!
reppad98 chapter 23 . 3/27/2016
Oh, I like Paul's thoughts about being high and low. Quite philosophical, and true as well.
Huh, it wasn't surprising that one of those rival girls did something to Dawn, and it also wasn't that surprising that Paul would step up, but I felt he said too much, with telling that rival girl that he was the only one who was allowed to hurt her (and even in context, it does sound a bit abusive...) and saying that he messed up her life. And that he gave in so quickly to Dawn, to tell her about his life, I hadn't expected that. It was just a bit fast, you know. After all this build-up, I'd thought it would still take a bit longer for Paul to really open up to Dawn. On the other hand, there are still seven more chapters to go, so who knows what's going to happen.
Thank you for updating, I'll read the next chapter soon, and keep writing!
reppad98 chapter 22 . 3/27/2016
Nice scene in the beginning, just light and fluffy and it shows the friendship between the girls very well.
The "I'm not getting in a closet with you" thing from Dawn made me grin, though the rest of the scene wasn't really anything to grin at. I guess I was wrong, then, it didn't make Dawn more determined, she decided to stop instead. Though I doubt she'll be able to stay away.
And those rival girls again... May's last comment about "I sincerely hope you all break a leg" made me smile.
Thank you for updating, I'll read the next chapter soon, and keep writing!
reppad98 chapter 21 . 3/27/2016
I can sympathize with Ash. He doesn't know what he did to annoy Misty, and even despite his heroism, I still can't really understand why Misty would give Rudy one last chance. The confession was a bit cliché, perhaps, but it was still cute haha. One couple down, three more to go!
Oh wow. Besides addicted, Paul is also a criminal. Great twist, I definitely didn't see that coming, but of course he needs money for his addiction. Great idea, I like it. And now Dawn has another secret to keep, one with big consequences if it ever comes out. Paul used Dawn's desire to help and figure him out perfectly, and this might either make Dawn stop or make her even more determined to figure him out. I think the last one :P
Thank you for updating, I'll read the next chapter soon, and keep writing!
reppad98 chapter 20 . 3/26/2016
Oh, that's an interesting explanation for Misty's dislike towards Ash, his heroism, I like that idea, I can imagine that Misty would dislike that. Though of course, that argument works against Rudy as well - after all, he did accept the battle. And for all Rudy's smoothness with the females, he does make a pretty stupid mistake like that. Yeah, honesty is good... At least this shows Misty Rudy's true character. And hopefully he's now out of the picture for good.
Dawn's goal is now out in the open, which does explain to Paul why she follows him around, but on the other hand, it might give Paul extra determination to not let that happen.
Good things between both Leaf and Gary and between May and Drew. Pretty big thing of Drew to tell May about his secret hobby, though I guess it must be easier to tell a girl than a guy about a hobby like that.
Thank you for updating, I'll read the next chapter soon, and keep writing!
reppad98 chapter 19 . 3/26/2016
Hm, yeah, I get that Misty is in a tough situation right now, but I still don't like how she claims that she doesn't want them to battle and yet all she does is watch. Nah, sorry, but I don't like her right now. Even if she said so at the end that she's not some object to be fought over, she still didn't do anything during the battle, and she still doesn't choose. The drama here is unnecessarily drawn out here, in my opinion. I hope Misty gets her guts back soon.
At least things between Leaf and Gary are fixed again.
Ah, so Paul has done this before, and the guys - or at least Drew - know about it. I wonder if any of them know the reason behind it. I think that only Reggie has a suspicion.
Thank you for updating, I'll get to the next chapter soon, and keep writing!
reppad98 chapter 18 . 3/26/2016
Ah, so Misty hasn't completely fallen back in Rudy's arms yet. Dammit, she just needs to tell him to leave already, but she's still too... I don't know, secretely hopeful, that they can work it out or something. I don't like Misty like this, weak and silent and not doing anything and just waiting for things to resolve itself. I really hope that changes soon.
Definitely a lot of drama in this chapter, those rival girls are ruining everything. Well, except for things between Paul and Dawn, Paul is ruining those all by himself. Okay, wait, scratch that, the rival girls are involved in that as well; attempted murder and drugs, looks like that besides just mean, they're actually real criminals. And Paul stoned, okay, I admit, that made me grin a bit, his reactions. He's definitely not himself haha. Talking with Drew would be a good idea.
Thank you for updating, I'll read the next chapter soon, and keep writing!
reppad98 chapter 17 . 3/25/2016
Haha, I loved the scene with Ash and Drew together. And Drew's secret hobby... That's actually pretty good idea, it explains really a lot haha. Looks like Misty fell for Rudy's charms again, though... Poor Ash.
Leaf and Gary are really lucky they get to play at that music store, though I guess it's probably good for the store if they allow people to practice. As long as they don't break anything :P It probably is confusing for Gary, yes, that Leaf suddenly acts so nice after her rejection. She just wants to be friends, but it appears they can't be 'just' friends.
Okay, that Abby girl and her friends are really messed up. They should report this! They could go to jail for this, and it's just seriously messed up. Even if they are after the guys, that's not something to kill someone over... Those girls are scary... But go May!
Thank you for updating, I'll read the next chapter soon, and keep writing!
