| Alydia Rackham chapter 1 . 10/5/2015 As somebody who has loved using the language of flowers throughout my own stories, both original and fanfic, I enjoyed looking up the meanings you didn't expressly state. I adore the subtlety of this language, and the elegance. The site that I go to every time is called "The Forgotten Language of Flowers," and it's quite extensive. I suppose that's where I found my single bit of disappointment in your little fic-because I looked up lime on my favorite site and found "marriage." And I thought to myself "Oh, of course the old man would believe that would be a sensible answer for a young lady! If the gentleman who is courting her is so ardent, then the lady could coyly prod him toward marriage." It caught me completely off guard that he should suggest sex-and thus the ending sort of lost its elegance. Especially the "get in each other's pants" part. Anyhow, I did very much enjoy this foil, and I think it is a game Sherlock would truly enjoy-something he definitely would have memorized, you're right. And Molly's perceptive enough, and knows him well enough, she'd figure it out. I really do wish people would still use that language! How much more fun it would be to give and receive flowers. :) Alydia Rackham |

It seems like something Sherlock would do, as he is notoriously bad about expressing emotion with words. It was also kind of a nice nod back to the original Victorian stories! |
