I think to set this piece of story in the already devised story, you did a suitable ending. Specially since you wrote the ending from a third person's POV which was a good shot to show Merlin's ordeal of the mandrake room from an outsider's view. All in all, I really liked this story and even though it's been posted for two years now, I hope you still write more stories on this fandom.

It's beautifully written, so thank you for a nice story. There are not many mergana fans. Even less of them are writers. And even lesser of them are GOOD writers. And I think you are one of those very few. Your story was realistic in all its emotions and expression, nothing superficial, which is a feat in writing - to bring the story as close to reality as its possible. And you did a great job of it.

My emotions are all mixed up at the moment. This was so sad and heartbreaking and a little hopeful with Morgana but still emotionally crushing. The sad song I listened to on repeat while reading the whole thing didn't help. D': And Gwaine... not knowing what was going on but desperately wanting to help his friend. And that last line is just perfect.

Thanks for the reasons why you chose who Merlin saw because I had wondered about Freya but reading all the whys makes complete sense instead of just throwing in a bunch of random people.
