I just re-read this story because it is just great. I do think the characters are IC (Unless you are a purist you wants SH and JW to be platonic but that, as Sherlock would say, is Dull. At least to me. Just my opinion.)
Anyway, I enjoyed the dialog and the misapprehensions. I loved looking into John's head and following his thoughts and feelings. The paragraph on John's galloping thoughts (the one with "can't, won't, don't please please") was so evocative of panic and angst. It really captured the flow one would feel in such an emotional crisis. Just wanted to highlight one example. There were some other very well done bits. I plan to go back and read some of your other work. I bet it's all well done too.
BTW very nice mushy stuff. Loved it.
