Reviews for In the Absence of Memory
yllimilly chapter 2 . 1/7/2010
I like the suspense! You seem to have thought this thouroughly before you started writing. I'm hooked!
yllimilly chapter 1 . 1/7/2010

Blonde-Existentialist chapter 8 . 12/6/2008
Ooh this is soo good. I mean talk about the angst and pain and bitterness leve. Through the whole thing, its impossible to tell whose the good guys or who you want to empathize with, which is excellent. This last chapter was particularly interesting and revealing and wonderful. I hate that you didn't finish this, because a bit more elaboration would have been so excellent. But I am glad you went as far as you did with the story, it at least brings a number of elements and questions together, if not closing them. But great work overall!
celinae chapter 8 . 12/5/2008
I love the premise of this story, it's so original and interesting. In all the years I've read fanfic, I've never read one quite like this... where you take canon, and completely transpose it to some other universe, ten times as real as the original... There are some details that strike me as a little odd (Yuki in the IMF? A senior advisor? And when he's only thirty or so?), or perhaps unrealistic. And while I really like part two, where you start to talk about the "present" from a futuristic perspective, it doesn't quite seem as strong to me as the first part. Maybe because the story was so much more powerful in that perspective, where we learn more about each character's history piece by shocking piece...

Also maybe because I don't like the present tense. xD Or maybe because the tone of those parts doesn't quite evoke Tohru in the same way that the first part (and the "present" does). I can't say exactly what it is about your tone, though. You make her sound extremely regretful and nostalgic, almost broken. Despite the events that have happened so far, I don't think she would be that way, entirely...

I wonder, did Tohru love Shigure too?

I understand why you haven't updated in so long, but I wish there was some sort of happy resolution to this piece. Or really, any kind of conclusion! Even if you don't decide to wrap this up, or continue it, I feel like it could almost nearly stand on its ow, but it just needs a *little* bit more... even if you didn't explain Shigure, Yuki, the rest of them, I feel like you could just add a few paragraphs and it could be hanging, but as though off of a balcony.. XD Erm...

Well, I just wanted to say I liked this story. A lot. :)
reeroy chapter 8 . 9/14/2008
I recall reading this years ago and now that I reread it, well let's just say you've made me fall in love with what I used to love about Fruits Basket.

It's difficult for me to accept that maybe, just maybe, you've cut all ties with the fanfiction world. But alas! that is life.
emeraldkat chapter 8 . 6/25/2008

Priestess of Passion chapter 8 . 2/23/2008

lindajrjt chapter 8 . 1/5/2008
Good story! I took a chance in reading this as I hope you will update it at some point. The main things I want to learn are what happened to cause her memories to be erased by Hatori and I want to learn about the intervening 25 years between her ending up back at the Honke and her son finding her. Please do update and thanks.
quixotomy chapter 6 . 12/8/2007
I've just thought...are you going to include Ren and Akira in this fic? You know, Akito's parents? Is there going to be anything about how they influenced Akito when he was young and so on? That would add an extra factor of greatness to the story.
quixotomy chapter 5 . 10/12/2007
'No way. Hatori's work was always permanent and completely annihilating. The memories could never again be recalled because they had simply ceased to exist.'

Ah...inaccuracy. The memories are not destroyed, merely buried. Says so in Volume five.

But maybe you knew this, and Akito's unknowingness about the permanency of the memory erasure is one of the driving forces of the plotline? I hope it's the latter. That would make it so interesting...hehe :)
quixotomy chapter 4 . 10/12/2007
A little advice- try not to use 'a bit' when writing introspectively (eg 'I think you're underestimating Akito a bit') It sounds childish: better options are 'a little' or 'slightly'

It's better in speech though, as long as the characters are speaking informally.
quixotomy chapter 1 . 9/21/2007
Ah...after reading your snippet (when are you going to post that, by the way?) I have kind of worked out a plot- Shigure, so incensed by Akito telling Tohru that she is his wife, shows her the picture, her memories return, and she hates everybody for a few days/weeks/months whatever, until she realizes that Akito is going to die, and she forsakes Shigure for Akito- whom she knows now is very lonely and sad. And Shigure hates her for it.

I haven't quite worked out how she finds out that she's pregnant with SHIGURE'S child, though, and not Akito's.
quixotomy chapter 8 . 7/20/2007
So does that mean that Akito is not Akira's father? Akito is dead, but Akira's father is still alive. Is it Shigure?
