Extremely few house in UK have weather vanes - and any built after 1940s almost zero . Privet Drive properties seem fairly new & by look of them built in 60s or 70s ? Faux Fireplaces were common even then: my Aunt's house was built in mid 1980s & has a 'Fireplace' but no chimney ! Thus the confusion of the Weasley's when they Flooed over at start of Goblet of Fire ...
