I understand that this is a novelization of the prelude plus your self insert, but the introduction of your character feels too jarring. The original game prelude works because the character we follow is someone who we already know (Leon). We already know his background with explosions and whatnot, but your character is someone completely unknown to us. To stick her into the prelude in the same way as it was told with Leon does your character no justice and frankly makes the appearance of your character seem forced. I like how you're starting out with an action-in-the-present-but-let-me-tell-you-the-events-that-led-to-this type of introduction, but I believe you can make it more of Nikki's prelude instead of Leon's prelude.

Also, "male army man" its redundant and as Nikki is a journalist/reporter and not to mention that if she was in China when the public turned to zombies, she should recognize that the "army man" is a BSAA agent. Even though this wasn't brought up in the prelude, this is Nikki's narrative so we should know the things that Nikki knows unless she states herself that she doesn't know.
