Reviews for Honor Among Thieves
wandering-lotus chapter 19 . 6/21
Don’t get me wrong, I do like that zuko is a part of gaang and that Mira already has a close connection with him, but I wish there were some more obvious clues earlier on that indicated this relationship. Nonetheless, I love their dynamic now :)
wandering-lotus chapter 18 . 6/21
Wow I’m sad that I’m starting the approach the last chapter. Mira has finally opened up and I can’t wait to continue on!
wandering-lotus chapter 16 . 6/21
I didn’t think much of it at first but I really like the relationship between Collie and Mira. Keep up the good work!
wandering-lotus chapter 15 . 6/21
Loved this chapter! Your fight scenes were so descriptive that it was easy to imagine everything that was going on. And Nakaru sounds hot!
wandering-lotus chapter 14 . 6/21
Loved this chapter! The characters all really came to life for me!

My only question is.. how does Mira fight without her hood falling off? And even if the hood was on, wouldn’t people still see her face?
wandering-lotus chapter 12 . 6/21
I love it when you enter AU territory! Often times I see with stories featuring gaang and OC, the OC seems like they’re just along for the ride and I’m basically reading the enter plot of Avatar. Please keep it up!

I do have a small critique regarding punctuation but it might just be me being nit picky. I see you use parentheses a lot, but I think ion most of those instances it’s not necessary!
wandering-lotus chapter 8 . 6/20
“ What did you think happened to the men on those ships?"

You wrote what I had been thinking while rewatching the show. Do deaths that happen off screen not count?! Anyways, I’m really enjoying Mira a lot more than I did in the earlier chapters. I love seeing her open up to gaang and even designating nicknames!

I know romance is the third genre but I hope to see it soon!
wandering-lotus chapter 7 . 6/20
I can’t put my finger on it, but your writing really improved in this chapter! I love how you wove Mira into Toph and katara’s argument. I personally have a hard time writing conversations between more than two characters, so I really commend you for writing the great argument scenes!
wandering-lotus chapter 6 . 6/20
So despite my previous comment about wishing for a more asian/inuit inspired demon and ritual, I don’t mind your OC’s name. It’s not exactly asian, but I think it’s phonetically sound and a hell lot better than a “Stephanie”’!

I like the slow progression on Mira’s character. She’s opening up a lot more to Gaang and I hope to see continued development :)
wandering-lotus chapter 5 . 6/20
Hi there! I enjoyed the AU bits in this chapter and seeing your creativity. This is just me being super picky, but I had hoped that the demon and ritual were more asian or inuit inspired as a lot of the things in the show are. However, it was an interesting read!
wandering-lotus chapter 2 . 6/19
Hi there! First of all, I commend you for writing such a long story and you’re doing a great job so far with your descriptions. I hope to see more sides of Mira because as of chapter 2 (panic attack aside), she’s very cold to gaang and the nomad people. I would love to see her grow as a person :)
wolfenergy17 chapter 25 . 6/17
WARNING FOR REVIEW READERS: THIS WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS (MANY MANY SPOILERS) SO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.

I've immensely enjoyed reading this story for the past week. I especially liked chapter 20, so much so that I saved a few lines to comment on in my review!

"Aang, I'm trying to be mature and not immediately shoot down your idea," Sokka said slowly. "But it sounds…really terrible."

This one made me snort so loudly that I was afraid I'd wake up my family (with two closed doors and a hallway between us), and if I was drinking at the time my drink would've been coming out my nose! I don't think I've ever been so suprised/socked/amused/entertained so suddenly with humor alone. I absolutely adore how you've written Sokka and his relationship with Mira.

A few other lines I really liked were:
Zuko clammed up faster than a startled turtle-duck.
(I loved that imagery so much! It made me smile.)

And this one:
He blinked twice and shook his head a little. "I thought maybe you could dance, but I didn't think you could dance."
Mira clapped slowly. "The next Fire Lord, everyone."
(Mira's sass gives me life. It is the air I breathe, the blood in my veins. I love her so much.)

Also, in chapter 1 (allllllll the way back) I found a hint about Mira's true nationality/abilities:
She squinted in the darkness, and made out a tall, tapered candle on a table to her left. She lit it and surveyed the room with narrowed eyes.
What'd she light it with? That was the first thought in my mind, and I immediately thought - she's a Firebender. After her eye color was described I was like, yup totally can shoot fire from her fingers. And then I thought maybe I was mistaken and had been too nitpicky since it was so long until other hints came up. When she told the Gaang she had lived in the Fire Nation I was skeptical. When the whole thing about stealing a knife (or trying to) from Azula came into play I immediately called BS. Any person living in the Fire Nation would know what the royal family looked like and even if she was daring enough to attempt to steal from royalty, Azula wouldn't be getting fitted for a dress by just any commoner - she'd be having royal seamstresses doing so. But no bending showed up. Nothing. I was beginning to think I had been too anal about little details BUT THEN BA SING SE HAPPENED AND TH D! She mentioned having to use "it" and I was like oooohhhh yessss gimme that sick firebending girl and boy did my best girl Mira deliver. I loved her fight with Azula and THE REVEAL oh my was that well done! I loved everything about that scene!

I've always had a headcanon that Firebenders hate being underground and cut off from the sun so Mira's claustrophobia (which btw I loved having an main character with such a crippling and debilitating weakness in a world where Earthbenders can travel underground as easily as breathing) really fit in with my own ideas. The only thing is I wish you'd explained what caused her claustrophobia some more. There was one scene with a flashback about a wine cellar and someone locking her in it but it wasn't mentioned after that, and if that was the cause then it must've happened while she was still living in the palace (maybe her dad was the one that locked her in there) since Zuko knew her while she was claustrophobic. But other than that I really liked the crippling claustrophobia she had and how you portrayed it realistically. She really became useless when her fear overwhelmed her, as she should because phobias are not something to take lightly and use to give a character a "weakness" so they aren't Mary Sues (of you can't tell I have an issue with people making light of phobias) which you've managed to avoid. Mira is badass and pretty overpowered but we learn how she got that way, and it's realistic.

I love this story so very much and I can't wait to see how it ends! I could go on forever raving about this and discussing Mira's journey, but it's 4am and I figured that I've gone on long enough.
TheVulcanNara chapter 15 . 5/22
I briefly shipped Mira and Nakaru. Wonderfully written fight scene by the way. Those are hard to write and you did admirably. I really love Mira she's definitely a favorite OC of mine female or otherwise
TheVulcanNara chapter 14 . 5/22
Colie is a bitch. I would have helped her sister and the kid but not her. You don't drag someone into your problems and then threaten them whether they agree to help or not after they have already helped you no matter how desperate you are. Mira shouldn't have agreed to the fight so colie could get out she could have gotten help from the Gaang or found a better way. I understand her fear and pride and her distrust were factors in which she agreed but the Dai Lee already know she's trouble and you can't tell me that there's isn't a lot of crime in the Lower ring secret police be damned it's like the Narrows of Gotham City she runs with the avatar and while yes they are under serious watch she has a degree of immunity. Absolutely Long Feng would use this against her and try to have the gang turn against her and have her imprisoned or killed. I guess I'm more just frustrated that she just got trapped and blackmailed by some cunt that's all fucking bark that gets itself into trouble without taking real responsibility and making other people do her dirty work while being a whiney hypocrite. I've been where she was but I've never stooped so low and if I ever did I sure as hell would of had more respect and been far more grateful. Themal should be ashamed of her sister I know I'd go off on any of my younger siblings for treating anyone they way Colie treats Mira who is a good person who has done bad things. You don't treat someone who has helped you or is helping you like that. It's disgusting.
Kit chapter 25 . 3/20
One of the great tragedies of the decade was that this story was never completed. Every now and then I come back to it and remember what it was like to read it for the first time all those years ago. Quarantine presented the perfect opportunity to read it again. I hope you realize how amazing this story is and all of the characters you created are! :)
