this is incredible. i watched forbidden kingdom recently (love watching it) and i "rewatched" everything in my head as i read, now from jet li's point-of-view. it makes for an interesting and amazing story. thank you for writing.

This was amazing to read. I was always a little bothered by the fact that there wasn't much acknowledgement that the monk as the Monkey King's construct. They did the head nod thing, but there was so much there. The construct lived for so long, had a life, made friends (family). Did anyone mourn him? Or was there just that handwavery that his essence was absorbed into the Monkey King and he is also the construct? Ugh. But this was a beautiful peek into the mind of the monk who was so much more, before his time was up. Very human indeed.

And holy hell, was that back story for Lu amazing. I just, you are brilliant. Just awesome for coming up with it. (I almost imagined at first that maybe the monk went around saving boys and dropping them off at temples all the time, and that's why there are so many there.) Thank you so much for writing this.
