reese chapter 40 . 10/29/2017 Oh, I keep coming back to this fic, it’s so so amazing. I’ve read it a couple times over the past few years, and I love it every time! Hetalia is one of the fandoms I’ll always have a love for, and this fic is one of my favourites for USUK. I know it’s been a few years by now but still, thank you for writing! It’s a very sweet fic that I never get tired of reading. 33 |
killroy-is-real chapter 1 . 10/19/2017 Even though this was probably written years ago and there is a chance not many people (let alone the author) will read this, I still feel the need to offer some constructive criticism. Key word: constructive, this work was amazing and I'll most likely read it again in the future. Still, I couldn't help but feel annoyed at all the missed opportunities for conflict! I know there was already a main conflict, but there were so many scenes that could've been 'milked' further. Like, Francis was just okay with Matthew consummating his marriage with Ivan? Alfred was just okay with Arthur sending him and his brother to jail and then to enemy territory and then to war? Matthew was okay with practically breaking up with Francis (long distance AND an open relationship?), the love of his life? I understand we're dealing with monarchs here, very powerful (and somewhat limited) characters. I also understand certain people would react differently, but I just feel potentially powerful scenes were dulled to progress the plot which isn't bad! But it annoyed me that most characters were simply 'okay' with a lot of things that people would usually not agree with. Other than that, amazing piece of work. 9/10. -KR |

Akina1621 chapter 40 . 12/31/2016 Such an amazing story! I checked this out cause I was looking for Cardverse and the summary was interesting, but then I read a couple reviews and I thought, "Dayum, this person sure knows how to wring their hearts." The one thing I absolutely MUST compliment you on is how you depicted the war. There was the light-hearted yet dark camaderie amongst the soldiers, and then the actual killing and stuff. Although you didn't put much detail into the whole "war is grief and pain" thing, obviously because this is a story centered around romance and thus you had to focus on the pain of lovers being apart, the war definitely came through to me as very realistic. Nothing too extraordinary, yet nothing too simple came from Alfred's battles or heroic actions. It's all realistic. *spoilers ahead* I definitely would've liked to see a tiny sequel of how things are like with Alfred as King, but you definitely ended the story at a good place. It's a shame that you aren't exactly enthusiastic about Hetalia anymore, but well, it happens. Same here, I only go back to the fandom once in a while when I feel it. I hope you continue writing and improving, even as just a hobby. I'd love to see an original story by you centered around war or something. I'd definitely be hooked. Thanks for the great read! |
Diurnal Days chapter 40 . 7/18/2016 I had to use four tissues to drench my sorrows over this fic. No, but seriously, how could you make a fictional character's "death" so heartwrenching? Why would you do this to me? QAQ And the way Arthur quietly grieved over him affected me so much, I can't even put my emotions into words. I'm not being lazy, either. How can I suitably describe the pure heartbreak of Alfred's demise, Arthur's silent grief, and the rush of their relationship and everything that came with it? I am not usually very fond of Cardverse, but this fic was perfect in so many ways. The characterizations were realistic without being washed-out, as if these incarnations of the canon characters weren't subdued, but rather reduced to who they were in a carnal, essential sense. The world-building, whilst definitely not the best I've ever seen (I would have liked to know more about the landscapes and locations of the different kingdoms and of their individual quirks and cultures), was pretty solid for a piece of literature of this length. The romance was well-developed without feeling forced or romanticized (you handled the issues of dub-con and the responsibilities and development of romantic relationships more realistically than almost every other author I've read the works of), and I felt more feelings for King Alfred and Queen Arthur's innocent, caring relationship than for nearly every other USUK relationship I've read about so far. The knowledge of medevial traditions and customs was good (I especially like your skillful handling of the monarchy hierarchies). The sex scenes were unbelievably hot and tender and I never felt that any scene was out-of-place or unnecessary - I didn't skip over any scenes or think, "Great, this scene is soooo boring". And speaking of which, the pacing. The pacing is, by far, at least the second best I've ever seen in any piece of literature, period. Everything flowed together in a rush of images and feelings, as if I were viewing actual, moving scenes beneath the words you wrote. Nothing went by too quickly or too slowly, the scenes and development included. I understood how things worked without having to backtrack or sit through an unnecessarily tedious lecture on blah blah blah this and tither that. I spent an entire day reading this, and I must say that I regret not a moment of my time spent with this fic. Basically, this is the best usage of a simplistic (I say that with no derision intended) writing style that I have ever seen in my years of voraciously consuming literature. This is undoubtedly an overlooked gem that I will be coming back to time and time again, and I will be following your works from now on, whether they're in this fandom or not. (Can I just say that the lack of Author's Notes made my experience with this fic all the smoother? Maybe this is just me, but sometimes long Author's Notes that have nothing to do with the story at hand absolutely bug the bloody hell out of me. I feel compelled to read the entire chunk of text sitting atop the next chapter in case there's something juicy or foreshadowing in the A/N, and then I begin reading the actual chapter with my immersion and pace killed. Thanks for that.) |
