What made me smile in this story is Rory's joy at growing older. I find his fragile humanity more heroic than all of the Doctor's regenarations.

It started out very ominous, and then went a little scary, but the end was very sweet.

It wasn't the Doctor's fault that Rory became a Roman, it was the Daleks' fault, and the Nestenes', and the other aliens in the alliance. They were the ones that took Amy's memories. Sure, to capture the Doctor, but you can't say that it was his fault. Unless it's for not being quick enough to discover the truth.
