love this story. it's a unique take on the "pureblood Hermione" trope and very well written. I don't really feel comfortable with Hermione's physical attack on Draco tbh. I understand she's a flawed character and I'll accept that. That said I'm very excited to see the mystery unravel. I wish we had known more about Hermione's parents.

ok but the fact that this story was updated when i started college and now im about to graduate college...miss attica ma’am...its been 4 years...

draco’s dilemma and this push and pull thing he has going on where he can’t decide whether he wants to let hermione in or push her away is so interesting because it’s just so layered. on the one hand, he has always loved her, whether that was as a best friend or now as a lover, and his instinct is just to be close to her. kind of like magnets. even when they’re apart, there’s always that invisible thread urging them closer. on the other, he still carries that hurt and resentment from finding out her secret through a tabloid and not her, and how betrayed he feels about her keeping it from him. but it’s like, he’s been keeping secrets from her too. big secrets in the way he always evaded her questions, in the way he would never truly let her in, even when they were on better terms as friends. so can he really blame her for this one secret? one she even had a good reason to keep? not to mention, his main gripe is that she won’t give him anything to work with. but he’s also never said anything, never told her he liked her in all seriousness. the opposite in fact; he’s been dating around, mocking love itself as a delusion that isn’t real, and in general being an edgy boi. so can he really blame hermione for never taking a hint? you’ve sent her nothing but mixed signals, draco you absolute doorknob. and gosh this is just the part of the dilemma that exists in the emotional and personal realm. then there’s the fact that both of their safety will be put at risk if they were to start seeing each other in secret. should her let her in? and /how/ in? how many of his own secrets is he willing to divulge? how many are safe to divulge at all? if he lets her help him, wouldn’t two heads be better than one? (i can totally see them being a badass power couple; they’re both smart, quick witted, skilled in their different ways, not to mention they can read each other like an old favourite book). or would the other way around be better; that is if he keeps her far away from this mess. but he’s already gotten her involved. this kiss is pretty much an admittance, a confession, a turning point. he can’t “oh i was drunk and it was new years” his way out of it this time. so how are they going to proceed after this? will they slowly try to see where this goes? how will they navigate the friends to something more situation? (id be super awkward around someone who used to be my best friend suddenly becoming my s/o, even if being with them feels like the most natural thing. i actually think it’d be cute watching them fumble their way through a relationship. plus considering the fact that draco’s engaged...yikes. i can totally see hermione constantly bringing up his body count to shame him lmao. also they’re both afraid of love in their own ways, especially hermione who’s never been involved with anyone, and draco who’s only every dated girls for a few months at most, so that’ll be an interesting dynamic they’ll have to navigate). will they decide that this was a mistake and go back to pretending they don’t care for one another like they do? considering the day both of them have had, would they even have the energy to talk about it right after? what combination of choices will drive the story forward? i’m super excited to find out :D

wonderful job! I love the creativity in this pace. It's very smart how you've chosen to go back and forth between the past and present. Time jumping can be hard to do well, and you've done it masterfully :)
