Redo your sentence "Grover was a cripple because he wore crutches" as that implies the reason for him being a cripple is a pair of crutches, you should form it something like this "Grover was a cripple that always hanged out with Percy" there is no reason for you to mention anything but him being crippled and give some information, Most people reading this story has seen the PJO movie or red the books I hope, so everyone knows Grover used crutches, besides it sounds weird mentioning it the way you did.
