i think Lin's father is sokka,
of all,lin is like toph,not emotional and likes expressions too much,and maybe thats why he calles sokka uncle is because he just dont want to be different with his friends, her it would be awkward if she would call sokka dad because all of them calls sokka uncle,and if you would not believe observe toph,shes not emotional,only sometimes,but for her it would be corny,and lin got exactly the attitude of toph so see,it has aconnection
