I've read this story so many times and I deeply apologize for not writing a review sooner. It's one of my favorites. You're an amazing writer and this is about as perfect of a oneshot as I could ever imagine. I also love your explanation for Ron and Hermione's break-up. It's so well described and so damn believable (though there are many believable reasons for them not making it...) And your bit about the "wall" that Harry has put up in regards to being with Hermione - it's a perfect image to how he has managed to ignore the romantic possibilities with her for so long. It always annoyed me when canon peeps say "harry had no interest in her!" My immediate thought was always that he wasn't allowed to have interest in her because Ron was so damned obvious. Anyway. You're awesome.

This story is splendid. A plausible post-DH tale, in which the Weasley complications have been settled, it seems. Why/how Harry and Ginny broke is not known. The incident with Ron is surely possible, playing Quidditch make sense for him, particularly if you assume the end of the War gave him the self-confidence he lacks in canon.

I like the idea (as an ex-librarian) of Hermione studying that as a side door into the Ministry. Her idea for warding is really good and something we'd all envision her as doing. Using Lewis Carroll for passwords is cute.

The idea that Ron would simply take down the wards as 'too much bother' dovetails perfectly into his character as found in canon. (One reason I never bought the R/H pairing). The idea that Harry had kept his feelings for Hermione walled away is a fanon staple, but does rather fit canon too.

Hermione is wonderful in the way she breaks downs Harry's walls. This portrayal is light years better than canon. Harry shows a lot of survivor's guilt that never gets addressed in canon. The way his emotions are cleansed and he realizes the new possilities is wonderful. You have to think Hermione was trying to settle for second best with Ron. Still, her feelings, all of them in a complexly simple mix show through too.

Don't know anything about literary alchemy, so no comment there. I'm in the US, so no Brit-picking from me. Still, I know a superior story and I've one of these here.
