First of all, this is cute story. I tried to find a more appropriate word to describe it, but nothing can do better than 'cute'.
I appreciate that there is not so "hard romantic vibe" between both, Kaito and Aoko at the beginning. I mean, it's certain that they do like each other, and there are hints that they do "like like" each other, but it's not something that overwhelms their actions. They can be casual, funny, and even in the situations that have double meaning, they still keep these proportions - so first casual, friendly and funny, romantic comes just as second.
I absolutely adore Aoko's choice of name and reasoning behind it, plus Kaito's sincere reaction to that. It's really sweet.
What was good, it was that this kind of 'event' wasn't the only one. I think there are so many sweet, atmospheric pearls in this text. For me it was the dialogue with naming the baby, the metal band that supposed to act as a ring, and the scene when Ginzo noticed the said ring (I admit this was aboslutely hilarious - his reaction and Kaito and Aoko's lack of any reaction but casual).
Third part was more serious and it held a bit angsty feeling, but I believe it was necessary. I think it's normal to have these kind of reflections considering the asignment and the fact that soon they would have to leave school and find what to do in life. Aoko isn't given enough credit in original series. She's shown as smart (I mean the scene with solving the math problem from the very beginning of the manga) but with no special interests. Personally I like her as a Experimental Physicist (mostly because I think saying her choice to Kaito would crack a bit his poker face with surprise ;) ). But I'm secretly (to my drawer) making her a police officer - it might be kind of predictable, seeing her constant support to her dad, plus the atmosphere of law enforcement she was always surrounded by. But I like her to work in Homicide Division as a partner of Kudou Shinichi :)
Anyway, crem de la creme was the last scene. Especially the last line - sweet, fluffy, melting... call it whatever you like, it make me grinning. And still, it wasn't overdone. Just simple and perfect.

HA! This is a bit weird because I'm having that assignment at this very moment. My partner and I have to guard this egg for two weeks and we have to create a good container, bonding pics with the egg baby, birth certificate, etc. There will also be secret kidnappers that you have to protect the baby from. It's actually pretty cool and it's really awesome to see that there's a story about that here too. It'll be nice to have a partner like Kaito. Too bad my partner's all serious like. Good story! You've written all the emotional and humorous things very well! :)
