Hm, I am not from GB but I'd say also there the police wouldn't leave a corpse at a crime scene for a whole day, foster child or not. The inhuman aspect aside, an autopsy has to be done to determine the cause of death, clothing and rest of the crime scene has to be investigated and so on...
