This was amazing! Your take on why Mako became a police officer is just perfect. I've been wondering about that, and I just love how you incorporated the brothers' background. Mako's relationship with Korra was also handled beautifully, so in tune to their personalities. And, I just love that line: "It's a cruel fate to live half-alive." I really, really hope something like this happens next season! Great job!

This is just indescribable. It was perfect, all around. You ventured deep into Mako and Bolin's past and built an excellent story around it and how it has resurfaced into the present. I can't even begin to tell you how in awe I am of your literary skill. Now, I loved how Zolt's words kept resounding throughout the fic. You could easily tell how much they really affected Mako and how conflicted he really is - how conflicted the world really is. I like that you called attention the the main theme of LoK's first season (though it never really came to fruition): the struggles between benders and nonbenders. More than that, you acknowledged the grey area in between, that not all gang members are bad at heart. Some just can't find their way out. And though Zolt's warnings haunted Mako, I love that you usurped his "blood is thicker than water" by pointing out that "water runs deeper." I'm rambling now, but I just wanted to let you know how amazing I thought this piece was and how incredibly talented you are for weaving it all together. And then tacked on the final piece at the end, showing us what moved Mako to joining the force. Well done! I applaud your work.
