deathlyHealer chapter 1 . 4/21/2014 Whoa. That was bloody brilliant! |
Riventhorn chapter 1 . 3/24/2006 Great take on minor characters. I especially enjoyed the historical details and how you fit it into Muggle history. It's fun to think about what the wizarding world might have been like in the past, and I like your version of it. Good surprise with Hopkins turning out to be the Baron's son, too. |
Erin chapter 1 . 1/13/2006 Wow, this is really great! I came across your story via a post on FA, and I thought it might be interesting. And it most certainly is. I've never personally heard any theories on the Baron's or Peeves's lives that made any sense to me, but I think this is totally plausible. I think your characterization is great. In the books, the Baron is so mysterious and sinister. You really captured the menacing and...hm...sadistic nature that he seems to possess. And poltergeists as insane ghosts...I like it! Great job! |
Lossenrhos chapter 1 . 1/13/2006 Hi there! It's Seaspray from the SQ, you sent me a recommendation for this fic... I'm so glad you did. I spent the entire fic smacking myself on the forehead and saying "oh, of course, that's why ", and I really loved the twist of the plot at the end. Some delicious dark humour here, I really liked : "The old man had finally passed on peacefully - with his son's dagger firmly embedded in his belly" it made me laugh. Very Macbethian. And this "They were pitiful in their misery, and whilst the Baron told himself that what he was doing to them was a merciful release, it was more of a way to take out the sheer rage that was making his blood boil." It was somehow very human even though the Baron is so brutal and nasty, and even though what he's doing is horrible... it's a very human way of rationalising our actions and it's nice to think the Baron has enough of a conscience to want to do that.I felt rather sorry for the Baron at then end. You got the impression his son might be even worse than he is. Honestly, I know you asked for my opinion but I really can't think of a thing to criticise. I love historical Potterfics and this is definitely up there with my favourites, DMCourts "A Burning Issue" and Fernwithy's "Blood in the Earth". I warn you I will be recommending you everywhere I can think of now, so no more being timid! |
Storm3 chapter 1 . 1/28/2003 A fabulously written historical HP fic... I'm delighted to have found this. I really like your "fleshing" out of the Bloody Baron - it's refreshingly 3D, but every bit brutal enough to justify his name and appearance. And I did not expect the moment where the witchfinder turns out to be his son at all. Very well written Storm |
Apocalyptic chapter 1 . 1/27/2003 I can't believe you don't have more reviews! Despite the slight poltergeist inconsistency, this was an excellent story! Interesting and extremely unique. I've come across a couple Bloody Baron stories but never one this well-written :). |
Shade chapter 1 . 9/15/2002 Peeves has never been alive because he has always been a poltergeist. People don't die and become poltergeists! Poltergeists are poltergeists and have always been poltergeists! |
HermioneWood chapter 1 . 7/13/2002 Oo, that was neat :) |
