Yes. You've done a really good job writing from Azula's fractured mental state. I love how you've captured her madness, which really does seem like what stemmed from the betrayals of Mai, Ty Lee, and Ozai. She's Azula- she's perfect, she has to be perfect. Everything that says differently is a lie. Perhaps she may seem insane, sometimes, but that's an act. It has to be an act.

If it's not, she would have miscalculated. She would have miscalculated everything. She would have been defeated by her brother and a Water Tribe peasant. She would be not perfect, and she's Azula.

She has to be perfect. If she's not, she's nothing.

But she is perfect. She is. She needs to be.

This story is now my headcanon.

That Beach episode... It was sadness on re-watch. Felt so bad because they were all friends and happy and friends and... and then betrayal.

And then crazy Azula.

And then more sadness.

I feel so bad for Azula, even if she is a bitch. So bad. :(

Wow. That is one of the best descriptions I've seen of Azula's mentality post-breakdown, and it is both disturbing and so in character. I love her denial and her unreliability as a narrator, and like you I feel sorry for how twisted up she is with old resentments and obsessions. Maybe it's even worse because she's had her firebending taken away; the sense of loss must be pretty terrible along with everything else she's going through. And her sense of "what if," that she could have been so much more, is just painful. So many talented people are brought down by cracks in their psyches, and it's always sad to watch. That was both creepy and moving, good job!

You've captured her insanity perfectly, in my opinion. What her mother says seems a bit off to me though, but that's probably just me.

I always liked Azula. SO much responsibility, so much pressure, it was only a matter of time before she broke. I still think she should be Fire Emperor.
