And they're away at last! :-) This was a nice long chapter with so much going on. Odin is so controlling. Honestly, what does it matter if Jane and Thor are romantically involved? It will last what, a decade or two? That's nothing to the Aesir. But I suppose Odin thinks the optics are wrong for Asgard's new king. Loki has often chaffed against Odin's controlling ways, but Thor has always been what his father wanted him to be, so he's never felt Odin's overbearing will trying to force him to be something he's not. I wonder how he'll react when he gets a taste of it?

It's also clear that Odin and Frigga aren't quite on the same page. While Frigga thinks of Jane as family and invites her to return anytime, Odin offers to send a cosmologist to assist Jane in her work on Midgard and makes it pretty clear that's where he thinks she should stay as one of Thor's "Midgardian friends". He's also willing to "grant her permission" to visit Loki on Alfheim, no doubt a measure of how worried he is that Loki might go astray again if left alone for long. But again, this is safely away from Asgard.

As for Thor and Loki, their conversation was even better than I had expected. I especially liked Thor's comment about Loki's yellow cape and the point he made about fighting "as only brothers do". Even Loki couldn't deny the truth of that aspect of his relationship with Thor and Baldur. I also liked how differently Thor interpreted the way Asgard should deal with Helblindi vs Loki's advice. Thor might not be the most observant person in the world, but he isn't stupid. He's perfectly capable of insightful ideas and it's great to see how he and Loki, working from their unique strengths and weaknesses, take the same facts and arrive at different conclusions.

In your second paragraph you explain the spellings words for Jotun, Jotunn there is the plural Jotnar to describe the race. I suppose there is MCU Canon and the written 12th century mythology. Occurring to Wikipedia Jotnar is correct to plural the race. One more word to add to the long list of spellings.

I get the feeling that Odin was not sincere in his praise of Jane’s friendship with both Löki and Thor. I believe she didn’t believe any of it.

Poor Thor can’t even get giving beautiful flowers to Jane right. His not being able to question whether they would be appropriate or not in the South Pole environment.

Now, Löki and Jane traveling to the Pole to pick up his belongings, won’t be the last of this story. I will be very sad.

Nice chapter. At least Odin made an attempt with Loki. He may appreciate it later.

...I am truly running out of things to say, but I loved everything about this. Even though it makes me sad, you capture Loki and Thor’s damaged relationship perfectly. Odin’s so annoying... I also love how you write Jane. This fanfic is half the reason I love her so much XD

Great chapter, especially loved the Odin & Jane interactions. Possibly my favorite aspect of your writing style is how natural the relationships & conversations feel (especially for a space/fantasy epic). Each relationship feels unique & organic to the characters, their histories, & their personalities (as you've written them in your stories), not simply slotted into bins of "these two hate each other because the story needs them to hate each other," "the mother loves the son because he's her son," "they were besties & now they're enemies," "they were enemies & now they're besties," & the like.

Thank you for another great chapter! For some reason I'm not entirely sure how to explain, there's something somehow soothing in the calm, reflective way that Loki packs for Alfheim while wistful thoughts of the Polies and Mohsin resurface. Maybe it's partly that he remembers coming back before when he'd never thought he would or that he no longer passionately wants to destroy all traces of his former life. I'm not sure, but I really enjoyed this section.

His visit with Eir especially warmed my heart. Even allowing for all he left unsaid, that he spoke with her as openly as he did of his concern was wonderful, and I love that he can take comfort in and reciprocate her affection without feeling weighted down. Still, while I understand where he's coming from, I think he's too quick to dismiss any such mentoring of a promising young magic-user as part of his old life.

I'm so happy, too, that Jolgeir was at last able to speak with him and share how Loki's efforts to rebuild his own life after such a nightmare inspired Jolgeir to get back up and pull his own life together again. Given how convinced he felt of Jolgeir's low regard of him, how revelatory this is! Then, too, though it may not be much and comes so late, it's good to hear Loki's confession never sat right with Eir and Jolgeir always viewed Loki's apparent fratricide as an aberration and truly meant and stands by the trust he expressed to Loki in the Healing Room. Even if Loki has trouble accepting this when he knows Jolgeir doesn't have *all* the potentially relevant facts.

As to which chat goes better, that's a tough call. Odin and Loki can both be so difficult (and Loki hadn't intended to give Thor a private audience or to endure so many delays), but Jane's hackles tend to rise when Odin speaks the way he does and Thor's already showing signs of frustration with Loki's taking the opening he gave to mock his unenlightening explanation for Odin and Jane's walking away from the others. This may be wishful thinking on my part, but - as Loki has put off working out a way to keep in touch with Jane while he's settled on Alfheim and she remains on Earth, interspersed with visits to Asgard - I'm hoping Odin may, in part, simply want to assure Jane she may freely call on Heimdall's travel services to visit Loki. After all, Odin deeply loves Loki and has witnessed firsthand how much Loki and his welfare mean to her and that she's a much better friend than anyone else Loki titled thus. And Nadrith already pretty much invited her to be the first Midgardian to visit Alfheim.

As always, I can never thank you enough for writing and sharing this brilliant story with us. It's an amazingly rewarding read. Definitely something I'd bring with me were I, like Loki, packing books I never tired of rereading. :-)

Poor Loki. He just wants to leave and now everybody needs to talk to him. It will do him good.

I really enjoyed the conversation between Loki and Jolgeir. It was lovely to hear Jolgeir say that Loki inspired him to pick himself up and get back to living his life. It's lovely to to realize how much Jolgeir admires Loki. Indeed, he probably thinks more highly of Loki for all he overcame than he would have otherwise. Thank you for that and for Eir's hug. Loki needs to know that there are people on Asgard who admire and care about him outside his family. The trick will be for him to realize that it's not just one or two people who are the exceptions to the rule that everyone hates and suspects him. I imagine Jolgeir isn't the only one who found strength in Loki's struggle to rebuild his life.

Also, can't wait to hear what Odin has to say to Jane. :-)

Another great chapter I reckon Jane and Odins will go worse than Thor and Lokis conversation just because Odin usually puts his foot in his mouth.
