Reviews for Not American
Guest chapter 1 . 11/30/2015
My heart hurts...but also
For some odd reason, this makes me happy as well. I guess it helps as closure for the rollar coaster of emotions and sympathy I have for England and America at this period in history. This was fantasic. Loved it.
Alix the Alien Cyborg chapter 1 . 1/1/2014
This is an amazing story! I loved how you portrayed Margaret, and showed all the little similarities that stuck out in Alfred's mind between her and Arthur. You had an awesome history teacher, apparently, too! I wished more people thought that way. Every person in a war has their own story, their own version of what happened, and who are we to say which is wrong and which is right?
Lamashtar Two chapter 1 . 12/12/2012
This was a lovely view of the common people of a confusing time. I bookmarked your story, I am so fond of it.

However, I disagree with the notion that she belonged only to England. Regarding the Loyalists, in 1775, British governer Patrick Tonyn of the colony of East Florida-which remained loyal-said:

“there prevails in America a thirst for power, and a desire of consequence inknown among the lower class of people in Europe: This perhaps more the foundation of the cry for a provincial legislature than the…want of local laws, and a security for their property in negroes…”

It's been remarked before that the Loyalists who migrated elsewhere had very "American" attitudes, being prone to arrogance and cockiness. (And rebelliousness.)

I would submit that the Loyalists still, in some measure, were American and belonged to him as well. :)
