Isla Lyn chapter 4 . 12/31/2014
Oh gosh, I'm sorry, I did not finish writing that and accidentally pressed "Post". I think this is a really good idea, writing a guide to help people understand dyslexia better. You definitely have some awesome things to say and are really breaking up some stereotypes. However, one of the problems with such a guide is that dyslexia is so individualized to the person who has it and no two cases are alike, so generalizations can sometimes be inaccurate depending on the person. I think you're definitely doing a great job breaking some of the generalized stereotypes, but I'd also just be careful when stating some generalizations too. (My dyslexic brain might read/see words or font a lot differently than yours might, so it's really hard to describe one way in which dyslexics see it.) Overall, though, awesome job. It's really cool that you're trying to help other people understand and accurately portray what it's like to have dyslexia. I have a hard time trying to explain these things sometimes, so I think it's great that you're explaining this to people as clearly and as well as you are. :)

I think this is a really smart idea, writing a guide to help people understand

Thank you! This guide has been really helpful, as I'm trying to accurately write a dyslexic character (though not in the PJO fandom).

Wow I never knew that dyslexics mix up their left and right hands :O thanks for writing this, it's really helping me a lot.
RiverBluJay chapter 4 . 5/23/2013
This is actually really helpful. I am not dyslexic, and I'm pretty sure none of my friends are. I think it is awesome for you to post this to help clear up all the confusion about what it is like to have dyslexia. I intend to try to use your suggestions to improve my writing.
FearlessFighter22 chapter 1 . 6/12/2012
This story is amazing. I'm dysgraphic,, which is like dyslexia only for writing, and I have a lot of friends with dyslexia. Lots of the stories on Fanfiction drive me crazy for reasons you talked about. I would check the guidelines though, just to make sure this story is OK with it not being fiction and all.

Look, I love this story, but what I didn't like is how you made fun of people who wrote in cursive. I right in cursive all the time because I CAN'T write in print. And most of the time, people add extra swirls and all because they are in a rush. And I know that you didn't mean to insult anyone, but it still hurt to read what you had to say about cursive writing. I still love this story.
Pie.Cheese.Bacon chapter 3 . 6/11/2012
I'm not dyslexic, but I have a friend in school with dyslexia, and i can tell that this is really accurate. He has trouble writing sometimes, but he is an awesome artist. Unfortunately, there is this guy in school who uses his ADHD and dyslexia as an exuse. I absolutely love this story.
PercabethAndZebrasFTW chapter 2 . 6/11/2012
I'm not dyslexic myself, but I'm SO glad that someone pointed out that people who have dyslexia can actually read. I mean, really. I personally don't know anyone who has dyslexia either, but I'm pretty much positive that they're not idiots who suck at reading like some people perceive them as. It's so annoying when I read a fanfic and they make the characters seem illiterate.

And, this helped me. I'll try to keep this in mind when I'm writing. ;)

I have a question, though. Is it usually harder to interpret words and sentences when there's a lot of noise going on around you? Like, is it harder to focus on unscrambling the words?

I hope that made sense. :) I'm just curious.

Thanks for posting this! It's really interesting, and it helped me a lot. :D
Starkid Rocks chapter 3 . 6/11/2012
Once again, really appreciate the myth busting in stories, since it really helps me improve my writing. Quick question, just curious for this fanfiction I've been writing for fun, is it tough to read cursive, like the fancy version that you see on wedding invites and stuff?
Duh-Stupid-Me chapter 1 . 6/8/2012
I find it awesome how you stood up and told people what dyslexia is really like. Very good. I feel as if I really learned something here. Great job.

This was very interesting to read. I don't know any one dyslexic but quick fact: Orlando bloom has dyslexia. I really liked this, it was really cool.
perfectlyODD chapter 1 . 6/7/2012
I don't personally have dyslexia but I hate the sterotypes about it. My cousin and best friend are both dyslexic and they both try pretty damn hard at school and have loads of friends. People assume that people with dyslexia don't give a damn about anything and are completely antisocial. It's stupid. It's like saying gingers have no souls or anyone who has glasses is a nerd.

So, I think you've done a great thing by putting this on here. Hopefully people will see it and read it and STOP stereotyping it. People with dyslexia deserve more respect. So, thanks for writing this. :D
Starkid Rocks chapter 1 . 6/7/2012
I really appreciate this, since it's a good reference when making a PJO fanfiction. I personally don't have it, but it's interesting to see how it really is. I get who and how screwed up a lot of the time, mostly when I'm writing something for school, so I can kind of get that. The stereotypes can be really annoying, so maybe this will help with future fanfictions. :)
