For a first fic this is amazing, you should be proud of yourself for this! I did wonder for a moment if Merlin was gonna go evil but I'm glad that he didn't, you managed those cop few chapters very well!

Thank you for finishing this. I had to go back and reread the entire thing which I enjoyed a lot! The last chapter was good, especially the banter and sticking out tongues in the beginning, but I agree, it was a little short and seemed a little hurried in the end. But it was good!
My favorite was chapter 18. It was refreshing to see Merlin stand up for himself and pour out his soul to Arthur. I loved it that Merlin actually expressed his anger and yes, his own feelings of betrayal and didn't acquiesce and grovel for forgiveness. I think he has every right to feel this way. As good friends, and knowing the good person Merlin really is, Arthur should realize (after maybe a short rant of anger) that Merlin is on his side and has shown his complete loyalty during all the years they have been together. So, yes, I really enjoyed that chapter. Thanks again for finishing it.

I never did understand those fanfics where MERLIN was the one who had to beg forgiveness. Why should he have had to? It wasn't as if he had any choice in the manner of his birth or the fact he had to lie about his abilities. Arthur possibly would be hurt yes but even he isn't ignorant enough to not realise it's a life or death situation, and he wouldn't have been able to tell Arthur till the law was changed since to do so would be confessing to treason. Merlin is not an idiot and the smart thing to do was to not say anything. If Arthur IS dumb enough to believe him a traitor for concealing a secret that could kill him, then he doesn't really deserve the title of Once And Future King now does he?! Those fics where Arthur reacts so badly and requires Merlin to beg forgiveness for his betrayal are actually sometimes quite ludicrous in the portrayal of Merlin's character, yes he feels sorry he had to lie to his friends but Merlin is a very strong willed and stubborn man and I can't see him laying down like a whipped dog and just taking punishment from Arthur without snapping. I love your characterisations for this reason. I think they are spot on. Well written and even though it jumps around a bit time wise it's still easy enough to follow. Me likey a lot! I will be reading more of your fics!

and Merlin has lost a great deal to the Pendragons and yet he gave Arthur a chance yet look what that has gotten him? Pain and loss
