Excellent story!

I love the bit about "Subtle? Me? ... I'm doomed." I sympathize with KJ on that, as someone who doesn't know how to do subtle. I also like Phoebe admitting readily that she's bossy, while implying KJ is too. However, it's so obvious from this first scene that Phoebe is wrong, what KJ needs to do is go have an honest talk with C and skip all this fake stuff.

The conversation about the illicit still is hilarious. I wonder how much stuff went on on that ship that KJ knew about and had to pretend she didn't. In 7 years, with no transfers and practically no shore leave, I'll bet there was a lot of illicit stuff going on.

I might have to try that method of emailing silly jokes to someone next time I'm stuck in a boring meeting. KJ should maybe stop listening to Phoebe about just before that, though. In the conversation about Seven dating someone, KJ's coffee, eating, and sleep schedule issues really are pretty serious, aren't they? Since she's not on the ship anymore with C. and Neelix and others watching out for her, she really better get into a relationship with C. soon so that he can continue to enforce some healthier habits.

I think the timing of the story is good, in how you went from the sweet, silly dates to the serious scene where KJ and C both get mad at each other over confronting past traumas. It was getting a little too sweet (setting up for the ending), so that was just right. Then the Christmas scene is really nice. It would make sense for KJ's and Tom's families to become closer while they were gone. I also like the idea that KJ gets her habit of touching people on the shoulder or arm from her family doing that with everyone.

It's a really nice thought that B'Elanna would spend extra time with Joe Carey's family, considering she started off her relationship with him by breaking his nose. By the end, though, I'm sure she would. That's one of the great things about Voyager: the growth in the characters. In the scene at the memorial, it's interesting to see Phoebe being serious for once.

What a good conversation, where she's finally honest with him. I don't know what he should do about running out of patience for dealing with her guilt, though, as that's not likely to stop.

Once again, a wonderful story.
