Very good piece, though, I can imagine Mako's and Bolin's life this way. Nice exploration of what little the story has told us so far.

One nitpick, there are a few places where it's a bit tough to read, such as: "He can't see him now, but Mako knows that soon his green eyes will flutter shut and he'll fall asleep, not waking as long as he's warm enough." It makes sense, but all the 'he's throw me off-especially when both Mako and Bolin are guys. Just be careful when writing bits like that.

Other than that, wonderful pic! You really make a vivid scene with your description. I'm glad I know this story has a happy(ish) ending with them becoming pro benders. Great use of 'hunger', too-not just physical hunger, but emotional hunger as well.

Anyway, I'll stop rambling. Oh! But first, just so you know, there's a separate section in the Cartoons section for Legend of Korra fics. You might get more readers there.

Mako has, by far, become one of the more rounded characters of the Korra series. You managed to capture the sadness and the heartbreak and the importance of his red scarf. Brilliant! (:
