Great story - would like to see this set-up continued, if you have any inclination to do so. Thanks for writing and posting!

Wow, this story is quite a ride! I wanted to make sure I remembered what came before, so I went back to the beginning and read the whole thing over again. I am loving it. Curious to see how far you take this, and whether anyone can keep up with the Jones'. ;-)

Fi! I just love this story more and more. I wish you didn't have such a crazy-busy RL so you could write me more and more and more of this! I love how C&B are acting like adults. And of course Castle would have made some sort of back up plan after Beckett's shooting. It feels very plausible. I can't wait for more, especially now that I know where they're going! ;) So excited!

love love this line:

"It occurs to Kate that Castle's daughter will be gaining a mother at just about the age Kate lost one, and how very odd it is that she'll be there for all the milestones in Alexis' life her own mother will be missing in hers."

It's funny, just this morning i was mentally castigating another 'escape from the bad guys' story because it has them slumming it cross country staying in fleabag motels and eating junk food. My though was 'with their connections and smarts, and Castle's $, why not fake passports and an escape to a quiet part of the world? And voila, your update arrived!

As usual, it was worth waiting for. I do love these exchanges as i can both see and hear them - vividly - when i read the bits:

"'Remember my old buddy, Sal?' Clearly not, by the blank look on her face. 'Years ago, that case with the mobster.'

'The case that got my ex-boyfriend shot?'

He swallows strongly. Yeah, he'd kind of forgotten about that part.

'The case where you gave my mom's casefile to your doctor friend behind my back and I didn't talk to you for the next three months?'

Now he can't even swallow. Her face is closed, shuttered, her voice absolutely neutral. Yeah, like she's talking to a suspect she's got cornered. God knows he feels like one. "

and

"He gives her a second and then follows, finding her standing with her back to the wall, staring at the mussed bed as if it's a rhinocerous or something equally out of place. Or as if she is."
nixer chapter 5 . 7/20/2012
Oh. I also loved the line in the last chapter, spoken by Beckett, about how many times she has died for this and that she doesn't know how many lives she has left. Just devastating. And beautiful. And - unusually - something I could hear her saying. She's not the most eloquent, not compared to Castle, but she is succinct and she can be poetic.

Despite all the drama and tension in this a lot of it made me smile.

I liked how on-edge Castle was, how hard it was to read Beckett, how he felt like a suspect.

I liked this line:

"And then turns away from the doors, her look a little too wild, a little too windows! windows!, brushes by him and heads back into the bedroom." because apart from anything else it reminded me of the common comment made by fans of "why is it whenever Beckett's life is threatened she has an instinct to stand in front of windows in her apartment?"

I also loved this analogy:

"Like it's okay that his armour is old and the visor keeps dropping over his face and when he falls off his horse he's not very good at getting back up again."

"Tarnished, battered and squeaky. Great."

Because it is so Castle. He's never really been her hero. Most of the time he sees her as his. But he wants to be and so sometimes, she lets him. And sometimes (eg Knockdown) he really is.

"She takes another breath, stronger, deeper, as if raising herself up to Beckett-height, growing the three inches she usually gets from her heels."

I like this too. The strong professional that is Beckett.

I don't like the thought of them running (of course). But there doesn't seem to be another option.

Good chapter. I do hope you can get the next one a little (ahem) faster to us next time?

halaci chapter 5 . 7/20/2012
Great twist and a very logical one, totally in-character with Castle - and at that moment I think with Beckett too. (And a good reminder that he is a rich, no-nonsense-thinking writer, not just a tagalong behind Beckett.) I wonder whether something original like this would occure in the show when they will "get some resolution" to the JB case. Thank you for the update!
