I just now found this story , and read it straight through. I LOVED it!
I can not even imagine the torture of the wait between letters that people of that time had to endure when a topic so important as their love of another was involved. This story really makes you appreciate txt, e-mails, and cell phones.
When Charles and Elsie were together, and finally kissing for the first time, I just melted :)))
I loved little William, I hated when his character died on the show, he seemed so innocent.

All the feels for this ending! The proposal is just so perfect. So heartfelt and full of emotions. They both know the answer, they both know they're gonna spend the rest of their lives together because that's what they were destined to and they just feel so young, even if they're "old" and wise at the same time. Hope I'm making some sense.

I really like Robert's reaction to the news. A genuine happiness and blessing. And I'm also glad he understood Charles's reasons and respected those.

Finally, the ending. It reminded me of Anna and Bates's wedding. Even though this had a different feeling to it. And I just adore how nervous they both are. And the locket! And the message in it! Just perfect! Pure perfection!

That was a nice touch, bringing us all the way to the doors of the registry office with Charles and Elsie (I can just see her there, too, thanks to your description).

It was a fine touch going back to the locket, and its new message.
