Great!

This was a very nice one-shot. I don't normally ready pieces under 1000 words, because the style just doesn't normally work for me. But, this was well done. Nice emotional contrast. Good characterization. And I love to see John get a chance to be the hero.

Yes! For me, the delight in these stories exists because you allow our beloved characters to delight in each other! I love how you contrast the weight of great worry and concern about John's ribs with the amusing levity of their relief.

Another fav line: 'Small brain, large gun, undisciplined, unpredictable – a novice criminal can be a dangerous thing.' Oh yeah! and... 'the man before them became unhinged as both his criminal career and arse were quickly becoming history.' ... but I'm stopping there, before I quote the whole fic.

Love a bit of BAMF John! Especially with some hurt/comfort thrown in for good measure.
