Hi... I understand that you've left this story behind and know how life can get in the way but I just want to say that I've been weird and geeky and filled in the blanks of this story for myself, haha. In my head, azalea succeeds in attaining the top spot, and though she always knew it meant going into the games with Cato it takes an official announcement (eg by a trainer or whatever at the end of the year) for it to really hit home (it'd be really interesting to explore the impact of this on their relationship). Eventually Cato decides he doesn't want to lose her so he intentionally injures her so she can't volunteer, and though he still plans on gaining glory for his district Az pleads with him not to. On reaping day, he struggles between the two options and finally decides to stay with Az but he still ends up going to the games because he gets reaped. (Or he volunteers to save clove, which would be better suited to canon - when he stays with her after thresh kills her). That's a small detail but I imagine it'd have a big influence to how he approaches the games. Because I'm a horrible person and a masochist, the games are canon (he still dies) but peeta doesn't exist (Katniss for wins alone.)

I've really enjoyed reading this story so far, it's interesting to see a fresh new take on Cato's character. I will certainly be waiting for the next installment, even if it takes a whole other year...but I'd be totally cool with it coming out earlier.

the way you depicted Clove and Cato is really commendable too. I mean, it's aligned with how the book makes them out to be, but also shows a different side to them without veering away from the original.

grammatically, there was only one mistake that totally stood out, and it was regarding the use of "taut". I'm quite sure you meant 'taut', but you used 'taught' :)

the way your format the paragraphs is easy on the eyes too.

what else... yeah i guess that's it. really, really nice over-all.

im just dreading how it's going to lead to the games though. can't wait to see what happens next :)

I really enjoy reading this story. It's well written, believable, and your character development is great. I just cant help but wonder when they will realize that being the top of their class will ultimately lead them to having to kill each other? Why hasn't that occurred to them yet, or why does that not worry them?
