Queen Lua chapter 1 . 8/8/2012 This is a great little piece. I loved the little bits of worldbuilding strewn throughout (the pagan statuettes, the monument to Reyson, how the story of Ike & co. has become a classic), and Calill's voice was great ("Dear Ashera, I am old... The End" got a chuckle from me, but a sad sort of chuckle—the piece as a whole had a lot of that, nostalgia and sorrow mixed up in one). And I loved that ending, with Lethe talking to the boy—worked really well. Thanks for sharing! |
Okmijn9013 chapter 1 . 6/23/2012 Very interesting choice of characters... Not like I'm complaining, but I just felt like mentioning that. I thought it was very well put together and an interesting read. The idea that the last character left would be Calill and not someone else (like Soren or Amy, both Branded) is interesting... I mean, out of the beorc characters, but yeah. I think you did a very nice job on this one, so good work |
Amielleon chapter 1 . 5/3/2012 Someone here really loves Calill. The nostalgia had a nice flavor to it. Very "fuck I'm getting old." Half resigned. Half giddy. The pair here is unusual, but I think that's for the best. They share their memories from the war, that's all, and that's all they need. |
barefootbean chapter 1 . 4/7/2012 Your pieces with Calill are lovely; the emotion and the sincerity you incorporate into every line revolving around the characters - there's something very powerful about the way this was written. Everything was genuine, and the way your portrayed the deaths of the people who had passed before Calill was frightening - gave me the chills, actually - and very realistic, I thought. What struck me the most was Calill's last moments with Lethe. I'm sure everyone would want to go out laughing, but that was a really heartbreaking moment to read. Of course Calill would be the last to go, but it would be awful having to dread your own death like she did, after watching Marcia and Nephenee leave her behind. And then for Amy - her own adopted daughter - to have passed before her - that was a big ouch moment. As sad as this piece was, it was a beautiful and very moving read. Excellent, excellent job. |
Black Lotus Flower chapter 1 . 4/4/2012 I have a great appreciation of the mournful tone in the dialect. When a lot of people try to write stories involving death, they tend to miss that part. (We can all recall that show or movie when the characters didn't react enough to a death, and we all felt a little gipped.) However, the dialogue was done very well here. The story itself leaves me a little confused with what's happening. It jumps around a bit. But given that she's old, that can be fitting, too. I'm not sure if this is what you were aiming for, but I think it added more to the story. Good job! |
Aquatic-Idealist chapter 1 . 4/3/2012 Quite a thoughtful fic you have here. I especially like the emotion and the dynamic behind Lethe and Calill's interaction. Good job! I have no critique to give. |
Mark of the Asphodel chapter 1 . 4/3/2012 This was amazing. The depth of human feeling, the vivid interactions and characterizations, made it one of the most moving pieces I've read in this fandom in a while. All the more amazing, considering none of these characters are among my favorites, or even close to it. You rendered them as *people*, human and otherwise. Beautiful. |
