I also thought of something: if she's Scout's age (18-23y/o) she should be having regular periods now, but she didn't know what blood was. Perhaps they were testing her on her period days and being distracted with all the pain she didn't notice herself bleeding from "the area". It would be hilarious watching the Merck describe period and menstruation to the panicked Zero. :D
