Huh... But their mother's still alive, isn't she? I mean, the conversation between Sherlock and Mycroft at the end of the first episode of S01 made that much clear. I'm pretty sure they'd never talk about a stepmother that way; and wouldn't care about 'upsetting' her either.

Oh, well. I like AUs too, after all, so I guess this is still okay.

I'm totally in love with Teddy! Darn, it's been...almost 15 years since I last slept with a toy bear beside me! How nostalgic...

Trying to envision either Mycroft or Sherlock as children - let alone babies - is beyond the capabilities of my imagination, I'm afraid. University's easy, even late teens isn't so tough, but anything below the age of 15 or so? Nigh impossible.
But it's interesting how you've chosen to make their parents nice, normal people. Most fics portray the two elder Holmeses as either abusive or neglectful. (Personally, I buy into the 'emotionally distant' theory; 'abusive' is unlikely, since both brothers are clearly spoiled for luxury.) But I like this portrayal, too. Angst can get tiresome after a while, and non-romantic fluff is a rare treat when you've been worn down by one melodramatic scene too many.

I finished this story at 3 am and woke up the whole house when I ran up to the attic and rescued my old teddy Jeremy from the toy box. He's beside me now and he's going nowhere.

Why are sad things so beautiful? Maybe because when they come the bring the best or the worst in us- and they have clearly brought Mycroft's best. I love what you are doing with the character.
