Licoriceallsorts chapter 23 . 4/7/2013 Nice work as always. It was a treat to see Elfe being playful for once. I think the position you've put her in is very well done. She is a bundle of contradictions, having outlived, or so it would seem, her purpose and her comrades. She wants to die but she's forced to live; yet I also get the impression she wants to live, but finding a reason to do so eludes her. I get the feeling each of them are divided by their sense of guilt - hers for surviving, his for being set the whole chain of events in motion. Veld keeps coming back to himself: he wants to comfort her; he wants his daughter back; he wants to be forgiven but knows he probably won't be. I don't know if he's really begun to grasp what she feels. At least the Planet is still alive. |
Sniperrolf chapter 21 . 9/21/2012 Sigh, Not enough people know about this game and characters. :\ I'm still hoping for a 3DS remake. Doesn't help that I don't think anyone has ever translate the whole game into English. Anyway. These are all very well done, (been reading them over the last couple of days) I will admit, I had to skip some of them...Not many writers can put be in a depressed state from reading a story. You write the characters very well, and I greatly enjoyed reading all of these. (of all the ones I've read anyway...) ...now maybe I should go and finish writing my Elfe stories that have been just sitting there for half a year now, lol... |
Licoriceallsorts chapter 14 . 3/23/2012 I know Ten-tackles work. I really loved his Tseng (Zeng) stories about Jiao-Long. One of the things I love about Prolegomenon is that it uses the world I love but elaborates on it - it's a totally fresh adventure. It was a pleasure to see Evander cropping up here. Characterisation is delicate and engaging as always. I don't know if hearing that your characters are considered in or out of character by random readers is something that matters to you, but I thought Veld was wonderful. Elfe doesn't get a lot of characterisation in BC, but you have done an amazing job of bringing her alive and making her into someone I am interested in - a real heroine in fact; someone with a fully defined place of her own in the FFVII world. Thus, that world expands and becomes richer, and from my point of view that's an entirely good thing (because I am a very greedy fan). You say that this story is very sad, but I didn't find it sad. Which is not to say I didn't find it moving. These characters have suffered tremendously in their lives, and I think they might like to be emotionally dead (because it would be less painful) but whatever they say, they aren't. For me it was a story about redemption and hope. Veld has hope that he can reconnect with Elfe/Felicia; Evander has hope that he can help someone; Elfe has hope... Actually, you didn't say it was sad - you said you couldn't write anything happy for her. I suppose if one is an immortal condemned to live in a world of whose future she despairs, that would be hell. But if she can care enough to call Eva and tell him to "Stop", I feel there's hope for her, too. That's what I got from this story. |
Licoriceallsorts chapter 13 . 3/17/2012 Love the drinking game - of course Genesis looks like a woman! Question: in your headcanon, does Elfe remember that Veld is her father before she sees him in the Corel reactor? Because you'd think she'd have seen his face and details as they scrolled through the personnel database. I also really loved the idea of Elfe living so long that their world becomes the world of FFVII (Gran Pulse, is that what it's called?). I've really enjoyed these vignettes. It's so nice to read something fresh and different. |
Licoriceallsorts chapter 11 . 3/17/2012 I hope you don't mind my random reflections on your postings. I was thinking, as I read this, that Veld really has his work cut out taking care of her. It's a very interesting dynamic you've got going between the two of them. It makes me wonder a lot of things; for example, does he need to 'take care' of her more than she needs to be taken care of? Does he feel as if he's atoned a little more, become a slightly better person, every time she does something like this to him? I feel that he has hope - that ever since she came back into his life, he's had hope again, above all the hope that his child will outlive him, after so many years spent believing she was dead. You do a great job of conveying the horrors of immortaility. |
Licoriceallsorts chapter 10 . 3/17/2012 This one I found very poignant. She envies the life she lost when she became a "monster", yearns for the friends she acquired as a result of becoming that "monster" and thus the leader of Avalanche. The rivalry of the two men in her life. Calling him "Fu" in her mind - very telling. |
Licoriceallsorts chapter 9 . 3/17/2012 So here was I on March break with all my work done for the day, wishing somebody would upload something worth reading (so I could procrastinate about wrting my own fic for a bit longer) and my wish was granted. I really love the way you pull together all the strands of the different FFVII narratives in your stories. I think my favourite line in this one was "Shelke didn't likle talking to Cloud normally." That makes complete sense to me, even though I'm not sure why. What I like about your writing is that it's very direct, very *clean*, without any waffle or wasted words. You give me a story to follow and characters to believe in but leave my imagination something to do, too. I'm interested in the rumour that Shalua made Veld's prosthetic. Wouldn't she have to have been working for Shinra then? I know very little about DoC so I can't remember what her scientific specialism is. Oh, I have another question - is Dragoon Veld's canon surname? |
Licoriceallsorts chapter 8 . 3/15/2012 Hi I just wanted to let you know how beautiful your stories are. It's so wonderful to see Elfe as the central character. I love BC, and there just isn't enough fiction written about her. I love what you've done with her: the love of nature, the art, her tendency to come and go like a will o the wisp, hard to pin down. I think my favourite chapters were the first, where she met Vncent on an alternate dimensions, where the demons were usually kept banished to the borders, and the second, where she goes to Corel to atone, and the one with Zeng, where she struggles to come terms with the physical consequences of what was done to her - and "Everything Burns". You writing is lovely, simple and clear and full of strong feeling that really carries me away. I'm going to subscribe to you so that I don't miss out on any more. (I don't do Favourites any more, because it seemed like every time I favourited somebody, they stopped posting!). |
