No account chapter 1 . 9/25/2016 Hey! 4 years later after you posted this and I come along. This... Is so PERFECT! Yah! I love how you put China's feelings into this fic. I feel it's what gives it the "oomph". Especially the frustration on how things are going and how it is supposed to be. Beautiful, because I can relate. 2nd-ly this is really CULTURALLY accurate. There are so many Fics out there, -some aren't even that sucky- which have China wearing a Kimono, eating Kimchi, living in a Yurt. Like, COME ON! It may have to do with the fact that I actually know what China is like, and also ethinically Chinese... But I'm much more sensitive to that sort of stuff. Mao being "God" it was so true, cuz people did crazily worship him back then. The Chinese culture, like going to buy food on the street, denying compliments, etc. So true. I don't even know if you are Chinese, but I'm guessing so from this fic. The Western-Asian cultural clash was also an awesome addition to this story. So many authors ignore that, urgh... There is a really big split, especially for a time like this. ex: Xiang-Gang vs Hong Kong. The communist stuff, including the Mao Zedong portrait, yeah, that was so accurate too. China can't stand to yell and fight against Hong Kong even after all the frustration and stress said city put him the end, I loved how Hong Kong replies that he is still Chinese in the end even after a good century of living under England, give or take. China and Hong Kong finally accept each other. Yay! Okay, I need to stop now. But just know if your reading this Author, this was an awesome Fanfic, I loved it and we need more Fics like this. Peace and Good luck! |
Awkward Inc chapter 1 . 2/2/2014 I loved this. Their interactions were so perfect and real. I could totally see this happening. I liked how you wrote everything from China's pov. The ending was beautiful, a smile automatically appeared on my face while reading. I apologise for the lame review, (I suck at this) but I wanted you to know that I truly liked this piece. This is a great fic, I seriously don't know why you don't have any more reviews. |
Hiroen Nnir chapter 1 . 4/19/2012 Beautiful~ Makes me want to read a sequel or something to show the progression between the two, though the blow up was heart-wrenching (if not funny when China yelled at the poor rock XD) |
aenysa chapter 1 . 3/5/2012 *sighs* Beautiful. A lot of Hong Kong handover fics have tearful, happy reunions, and as lovely as they are, I always thought the actual reunion would be quite different and by far more awkward. I love this. :D |
KitakLaw chapter 1 . 3/4/2012 I just want to say...I LOVE this! Really, I do. I've seen a few stories here about the Handover of Hong Kong in 1997, but this is one of the only ones that I think successfully captures the dynamic between the actual people from China and Hong Kong and translates it perfectly into the Hetalia characters. Both China and Hong Kong did change a lot in the intervening 150 years, so in my opinion, their reunion really was like a reunion between strangers at first: it's awkward because you know you're both culturally Chinese and people from Hong Kong knew that they were going back to their original "owner"...it's like when you see someone you don't remember but you force yourself to act otherwise because you feel like you SHOULD. You even managed to nail the fact that a lot of people from Hong Kong preferred the way things were under Britain, but still were relieved that Hong Kong was granted semi-autonomy, so good job :) I may not be a very good representative here: I was born in Hong Kong and my family came to Canada when I was a baby because they were worried about 1997 and China being Communist and all that. But what you have here of Hong Kong's culture is all stuff I recognize from seeing how we tried to maintain a Hong Kong Chinese identity in a place that was even MORE westernized: Canada. lol - I recognize the cartoon-character covered T-shirts (inaccurate English and everything :P), the martial arts movies, the collections of western music...but I also recognize parts of Yao's culture here as well, like the desire for everyone to have a family meal, the self-deprecation that takes place in front of guests...even the habit of taking one's shoes off when entering a house. I love how you took all those elements to show how much has changed between the characters, but also how much has stayed the same. I see this is your first story here, and I must say I really like it - here's hoping you'll be as successful in the future :) |
