Poor Sera. Her reputation will be in tatters now. Being a detective or entering law enforcement won't be an option for her, depending on how public it goes (and I assume it will go very public).

Her character was definitely...well, bastardized is the best way I can describe it. Too cruel, too malicious, and too unobservant when it matters. But even in your story, I still feel sympathetic for her.

She found the truth quickly and implemented a plan that would have actually caught KID if it wasn't for Shinichi. She did what Hakuba and Shinichi could not, she caught KID. Sure, Hakuba and Shinichi also 'technically' did as well, but they also spent how many months of failure? She did it in, what, a week or two perhaps? You, probably unintentionally, made her an even greater detective than Shinichi, Hakuba, and Hattori.

Of course, only greater than them individually. Against two great detectives, an extremely sympathetic officer and his task force, a magic gem, and knowledge from KIDs assistant, it's not surprising that Sera 'lost'.

(Of course, even then she should have 'won' regardless. In that situation, all she would need to do is check Kaito for KIDs gadgets. Barring that, she could have faced off against Shinichi as KID. Even if Shinichi wasn't sick she likely could have beat him. As it is, Shinichi would have stood no chance, and it's not like anybody else would have intervened.)

And that tragic part is, she was completely right in all of her deductions. Her deductions were the truth. It's rather ironic actually. A series about finding the truth and uncovering lies, and when Sera does just that, she is punished for it. Lying is presented as justice, and the truth is presented as evil.

Don't get me wrong, this is still a wonderful story and I appreciate it a lot. But, well, I'm just not a fan of bashing characters like this. I don't enjoy it when it happens to characters I dislike, and I especially don't like when it happens to characters I really do like.

I know it's been forever since you've written this, but your treatment of Masumi Sera is sooo mean :(

She's one of my favorite characters (at least top 3), and it's such a shame that there are so few fanfics involving her. Even fewer that ship her with Ran (my OTP, aside from KaiShin).

Cute, short hair? Martial artist of Jeet Kune Do (the style that Bruce Lee created)? Intelligent detective? Flirts with Ran? Cheerful and kind, but fierce against criminals?

Personally find it hard to believe that she would care THAT much about Kaito Kid. She definitely risks more than Shinichi, and will go further to apprehend or stop a criminal (i.e. she once lured a hostage-taker into the line of sight of a sniper so that he would be shot). But then, that's for criminals that are actively hurting others. Not to mention that she is a fan of Yusaku Kudo's "Night Baron" novels.

(Of course, after KID - thinking she was a guy - used a stun gun on her, stripped her, and then left her bound/gagged in the men's bathroom, I'm sure she felt differently. When she escaped, she certainly kicked him rather hard).

I also just can't imagine her exploiting Kaito's fear of fish. I could maybe see her underestimating how bad that fear is, but she certainly wouldn't continue after seeing how badly and how deeply affected he was by it. Or taunt him about it for that matter.

But oh well. I just had to defend her. She's one of the coolest characters (well, maybe not as cool as KID), and she never really gets a chance to shine. And as said before, there is a huge lack of Masumi/Ran femslash stories out there.

The creature remknds me of a wraith from Stargate Atlantis.

I really loved the story and was very much satisfied with it but only one thing still puzzles and makes me curious. Who tops?
