Wow I think you perfectly captured the young Severus. He was so bitter and naive at that time I think. He's a boy who had been bullied and looked down all of his life so it is pretty natural for him to look up to Voldemort especially not knowing the true terror and pain the madman causes and will cause. Adult Severus is shaped by experience, regrets, and wisdom. A very different and bitter man- but still a good one trying to repent for what he did.
