I'm in my sixties and I can say from experience that unfortunately, people's true natures show in childhood. As adults, they just learn to hide it for social norms and self-image.

It's a great chapter.
But there's a slight inconsistency. Merlin, by allowing James to beat him up, is enabling his bad behaviour. That's not helping James develop himself or heal his soul. Merlin doesn't let Arthur get away with being a prat and a bully. Therefore, he wouldn't have let james do that either. In spite of his tendency at self-sacrifice, Merlin does defend himself.

While i realize its been over 8 years since the last update, im really REALLY hoping to see more of these stories, and hope the author comes back to finish these tales, i "think" i can see where its eventully heading ((esp with the hint that Arthur is "watching merlin secretly) , but i would really like to read a few more of these before the story concludes

Ends with no hope of continue cause this was last updated IN 2012! I started reading cause it was a drabble so no big that it’s not complete. THEN YOU GO AND GIVE IT A PLOT. I have nothing against it. It’s a great idea, but now I’m looking for the rest of the story and it’s not there!

So after Merlin and Gwen were talking Arthur still being a prat? Pleasd continue this story please. this story is so good thanks for writing
