It is an original story idea. I've only ever read before about one getting pregnant.

Try to write more descriptive maybe to signal the passing of time. Like e.g. instead of saying he proceeded towards the door, He took several steps towards the door etc... you know, describe what they do, be less abstract. I have found that readers like that, so that they have something to picture while reading.
