Reviews for A Midwest Monster of the Highest Grade
Guest chapter 38 . 12/10/2018
So basically everybody was useless.
Guest chapter 37 . 12/10/2018
These people have an amazing ability to waste time.
Guest chapter 35 . 12/10/2018
Apparently Willow forgot her brain when she teleported
Guest chapter 21 . 12/10/2018
Interesting. Most fics I've read don't focus on Giles betrayals and what kind of lies he tells himself to justify them. They're usually just background machinations in stories.
JayeMaru chapter 39 . 2/14/2016
I read this a while ago, and just discovered I hadn't left any reviews. This is a well imagined story that held my interest from beginning to end. I liked how the action jumped but ultimately intersected.

I really liked how you wrote Spike in this: his voice, his reactions to others, and the way he's created a life for himself that evolves from man he'd been struggling to become in Sunnydale. His friendship with Tara's ghost(?) is a delight, and the way Willow is an impulsive wildcard also makes sense. The machinations of Angel and the somewhat gullible nature of Giles work well, and Dru's game is mysterious as always. I'm glad you're working on a sequel because you've created a dynamic that I really want to see play out further.
diebirchen chapter 32 . 1/13/2016
Really great story, but watch diction. For example, in the last sentence you mean rein," as in horse equipment, not "reign," which QE2 does.
sweetprincipale chapter 6 . 5/30/2014
First- Mayan what? You are one brainy writer.
And then- Love the music.
And lastly- holy CRAP. I was snuffling and tearing up for the last half. You write so beautifully. It was just- soul touching, simple, eloquently envisioned. I loved it.
I am forcing myself to only read two chapters today and not read the rest in one go b/c I have so much I'm behind in, and this glorious fic is only one of them.
sweetprincipale chapter 5 . 5/30/2014
Action packed! I'm confused, but intrigued. And your Spike snark/over all voice is just PERFECTION.
sweetprincipale chapter 4 . 3/25/2014
I love your rationale and your Spike voice. SO perfect. That's a comment from the last chapter, which I reviewed ages ago so it wouldn't let me post again, but you need to be told again.
Oh my gosh. Your Willow. Your Willow IS AWESOME. I love how much you pack in a little space, just proof you're an amazing author. Thank you for making her smarten up about Buffy, about herself, about Kennedy. I like how you point out the harsh truth regarding Kennedy's true nature so deftly. Tara's presence with Willow must help a lot. Maybe it means Willow is "ready" for that. For Tara to be in her life without being a bitterness, a tool and reason to go to the untapped magic that leads to the dark parts of her self.
How interesting Willow is the first to know after Andrew. I like that Spike's mere living in this world makes Andrew braver, "effulgent". I think that is just proof of letting go of a grief, the world seems better just by his being in it. I feel the same way.
So Giles knows? How does Giles know? Have I forgotten this?
YAY Willow and Tara! This will be a wonderful gift for Buffy, but boy I hope everyone will see it that way.
Loved this chapter! Much needed balm to a stressed out day, and now I'm tearing myself away to be useful. I'll be back for more!
sweetprincipale chapter 3 . 9/27/2013
Oh dear. I am in suspense, but I have to stop reading! Your chapters are like bite sized bon bons of suspense and character study, whereas I write these ginormous tiramisu chapters with layers that get really thick. Kind of like your poetic pieces. Intriguing and undefinable and I love them.
sweetprincipale chapter 2 . 9/18/2013
Hmm. I do love Spike's simple affirmation that gets him through the day, and his thoughts on possibly wasted glory. Your description of Clevelanders is also so well written. I can't see myself writing Spike actually "looking" to see Wood and Faith's welcome to the midwest hellmouth, but I guess if you live through enough apocalypses, you do things for entertainment ;)
Great chapter! Not maudlin at all. Simply reflective and honest.
Reposted. I apparently was given "guest" status last time, but I wanted you to know who is loving this story!
sweetprincipale chapter 1 . 9/18/2013
This is excellent! Every detail, the insight into Spike's careless but caring, living on the edge, living the old life- but still can't pretend when he's alone- atmosphere is phenomenal. You really blend a lot here and I love the choice of music.
This originally posted as a guest and I wanted you to know it was me reading, so I'm reposting! It darn well better keep my name with it this time.

makron chapter 36 . 9/15/2013
The Spike/Tara friendship is awkward to read and kind of out of character for both of them.( I can't picture either of them - especially Spike acting so intensely & so quickly co-dependent on each other.) Interesting story.
