Reviews for A Grimm Set of Games
North Wind16 chapter 9 . 4/16/2017
I read this story a long time ago and I think it's the best and most memorable SYOT I have ever read. The arena and tributes are so original and well-written and some of them really stuck with me. A little while ago I decided I wanted to find this story and read it again but it's taken me a few days to find it, so I'm very excited to have found it today and start reading it all over again. Now it's on my favourites list so hopefully I won't lose it again : )
Guest chapter 17 . 6/3/2014
District six is transportation not medicine and district five is electricity not mutations
Guest chapter 16 . 6/3/2014
District nine harvests grain. It doesn't make weapons
PrincessLyoka chapter 2 . 1/8/2014
I really like how Achille's refuses for anyone to volunteer for him. As for Cordelia, she seems a bit District Two-like, but who am I to tell?

sock-feet-and-stirring-sand chapter 54 . 9/6/2013
I started this a while back and I think I may have made it around halfway through. But this time, I completed it! And it was excellent. I'm really excited for your new SYOT, and good work!
aharkins chapter 6 . 9/3/2013
The number of sets of twins is a bit ridiculous. Other than that it's a pretty decent story so far.

You should never apologize for long chapters. Longer is better.
Thomas J. Flynn chapter 54 . 9/1/2013
I finally finished it! Sorry it took so long, it was quite the read, I really enjoyed it, there I so much to be said about this story, I truly enjoyed it, it was unpredictable at every turn. I loved Kelvin's POV last chapter, and everything else! Good luck with To Marvel at Death!
LoopyToucan chapter 17 . 8/27/2013
Oh my god, that was beautiful. What's going on with District One's Reaping? I think that Zeus bribed the escort, or something. It's good that Rhine got put in her place, but I actually like her better than the D4 girl. Like, why is Four leading the alliance? That is just NOT right!
LoopyToucan chapter 16 . 8/27/2013
Oh, wow, that was a great chariot ride. It makes mine seem rushed and undetailed in comparison. Oh, I HAVE to read the next chapter.
DryBonesKing chapter 54 . 8/19/2013
I caught up a little bit ago. Just finally got the time to really review it, cause I knew that my review was going to be a long one.

For starters, I have to get this out of my system: OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG JANAFF! MY BABY WON THE HUNGER GAMES! AHHHHHHHHH ALSDHFASHDFKSDHFKSDHFKDSHFKHKHDSAKFHSDKFHAKFH, Janaff, I am so proud of you. I knew you had it in you
Sorry about that :P Anyway, on to the review :)

This is by far the best SYOT on the website and the best Hunger Games story out there. It was so good that I recommended the story to a few of my friends in classes and they've all had nothing but good things to say about it. The theme with the Grimm Fairy Tales was truly unique. The writing was nearly flawness. I saw no real spelling or grammar mistakes.

The strongest aspect of the story was by far your characterization. I know that the tributes were kind of based on what you got from people, but you handled them so well. You took what was given and made perfection. We got into their heads so very well. You fleshed out their quirks and their personalities so well! I can't say that too many times! And I can honestly say you fleshed out and made Janaff a better character than I made him. So...your characters. Great job :)

"Top Ten Favorite Characters List" by the end of the story (not including Janaff of course, to avoid bias :P )

1: Dylian Carte: Holy hell! He is such a glorious character! A beautiful thief with a lot of development and thought put into him. I fell in love with him from the gamemaker session, then he escaped the bloodbath. And just...wow.
His adventures in the arena were a great read and I enjoyed his overall view on life and everything. I almost wish he would have won the games, even over Janaff. But his death was awesome enough that I was able to forgive his death...sorta :P
2: Gwen Watkins: Funny. I actually disliked her a lot at first. Then the arena happened. And oh gosh...I loved her. I loved her relationship with Taralo and Lore. I loved her overall character and the way she acted. I loved the hatemance between Rowan. By the end of the story, I fell in love with her. She was the strongest female character and she was who I thought would end up winning. Great, great character.
3: Taralo Hickens: In any other story, he would be a bloodbath victim that you just felt bad for. On that note, I thought his backstory was GREAT and something I could honestly see happening (and ending just like it did for him and his family :'( ). But then...he lived. And then he had an alliance. And then he was in the finals. Taralo was the boy who would not die. And I grew to love it. He was this adorable little kid that I didn't want to die. His death was amazing and I love how he died the most heroic death of them all. He is truly a hero and I hope he enjoys his time in the afterlife with Lore, Gwen, and his parents :)
4: Calican Sareamer: I always love the smart ones and Calican was smart. His backstory was great, as was his overall character. I was very interested in him :) By the time of the arena, I was more than impressed with what you did. Just...wow. Devera's sacrifice of herself was a great start to his character. And then when he ended up getting his kill...poor Calican :( I felt bad for him. His insanity was understandable and made his character feel more real.
5: Rowan Hollows: He was the villain along with Meredith. And he delivered. I loved his insanity and bloodlust. His determination was downright scary at times o_O Rowan was just...something crazy. Something I felt this story needed. And I was very excited to see him each time :)
6: Rhine Carson: BAD. ASS. That's really all I need to say. But I just love her tough, rough personality and her relationship with both Coredelia and her sister. Props to her creator for also making Lura so damn adorable! (Seriously, Lura was one of my favorite characters overall!). The note she wrote her sister was sad...really sad. :'( I was disappointed to see her die earlier than expected, but I have to say that I loved her the entire way.
7 and 8: Achilles Atromitos and Imogen Torrini: No. These two should never have been reaped. Their situations are horrible :'( And neither came back! I actually cried a little with Rachel's P.O.V. I just...ugh. I loved them for their backstory more than anything. I loved Achilles more, though, because he was more of an interesting character, but they were just...ugh! Why did either of them have to die? :(
(Another side note: Props for the character of Zeus. He's also badass and my third-favorite mentor (behind Lura and Isaac))
9: Sparkie Jesfer: I LOVED HER SO MUCH FROM HER REAPING! She was so cute and whimsy with some spunk in her. She was a great Cinderella. However, the bloodbath had to be done. So sad :'( Hopefully she found her happily after ever in the afterlife...
10: Meredith Blade: I didn't really like her, but I can't help but appreciate her. She was a perfect villain. She was ruthless, cruel, deadly, nearly impossible to kill, and just downright scary. I may not like her, but I love what she did to the story. She was perfect.

Those were my favorites, but don't forget the other ones! Honorable mentions to Code, Coredlia, Catherine, and Devera. Once again, great tributes :)

I feel the arena was well designed and everything that happened in the actual games was very well done. Especially the deaths. They were all written so very well (with Bree's, Precious's, Rowan's, Dylian's, Taralo's, and Meredith's being my personal favorites). I felt pulled into the action and was just...sucked in. I think that was something 'magical' :P
Also, there was a dragon. There was a frickin dragon in the arena. THAT IS WIN!

The after-arena was also great. I loved getting insight into the president's head (which by the way, Varlios Snow. By far). I also loved Kelwin and his wife (but more on that later). And Isaac of course. He was my second-favorite mentor and I think he was an extraordinary character by the end of things. I'm impressed that District 8 has two victors in a row! :O

But the star was my baby: Janaff. And oh gosh...I feel horrible now :'( He has suffered so much: physically, mentally, and psychologically. Meredith screwed him so bad. And it was very interesting to read about his fear of her and everything. I also feel horrible that his grandparents had to die :'( Like legitimately horrible. I knew it was coming the second I read his interview, and I still cried. I feel so bad for him :(
But this won't break him down. I love how you have made his rebelliousness go to a whole new level. It's just...awesome. I'm really excited for your plans with him in the sequel. I'm so proud of Janaff and I hope he can pipe away with another victory against the capitol!
Also: I loved how you included his writing with the real fairytales. I...i just have no words.

This was by far the best Hunger Games story i have ever read and I was so lucky to find, read, and send a tribute in for. AND I WAS UNBELIEVABLY LUCKY TO SEE HIM WIN! :D Just...wow.

You did a great job. Seriously: a GREAT job. I can't wait to see your plans for the sequel (Lol Kelwin stealing his ideas from his wife). Best of luck with it. I know it will be great! :)
LoopyToucan chapter 15 . 8/12/2013
There are so many tributes that I want to win!
LoopyToucan chapter 5 . 8/10/2013
Awesome chapter!
mrslukecastellan chapter 54 . 8/7/2013
I AM SO HEARTBROKEN THIS IS OVER, BUT I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT STORY! Plastic wrap dress...nice one, Verena. And I love the code Zeus had for Janaff. Very, very clever.
LeviAntonius chapter 54 . 8/7/2013
Okay, I decided to review this chapter first because its a bit fresher in my mind, that doesnt make any sense in English, haha!

Oh my freaking God, Claire, this chapter. I know Im like this every chapter, so none of my reviews really stand out and my reviews all seem a bit overenthousiastic, haha! BUT ALL YOUR CHAPTER ARE JUST SO AMAZING! 52 was AMAZING! 53 was EVEN BETTER, LIKE PERFECTION and this chapter is, I believe, like the maximum alongside chapter 53 and a LOT of other chapters in this story. Like, Janaffs part though, Kelwins part too was so so so good, but the first part really stoof out to me, mostly because the second part was more of a introduction to the sequel and the first part was more AN EPIC CONCLUSIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON.

SO MUTHAFREAKING JANAFF!

Everything just fell into place in this chapter. Janaff is the winnar of the 37th Hunger Games, he always has been and he is the perfect winner. I loved this chapter so much, I cant even express it. Janaff, omg, Janaff was just amazing. His chaotic behaviour is gone, so here we can see how he is and will be (AS A MENTOR, FREAKING JANAFF AS A MENTOR). The way this chapter ended, like with the spark you see with Katniss (BUT THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER) how you linked him to the piper, omg I CANT I CANT.

Okay, first the tapestries. Gurl, Varlios. You cray-cray. It was just amazing, how you brougt the tapestries back this way. I know what my first impression of Varlios was. HA HA, i was so freaking wrong.

AND THEN, OH MY GOD; ITS SO FREAKING AMAZING THAT YOU TURNED SOMETHING SO RIDICULOUS SUZANNE MADE UP, LIKE A HOBBY FOR THE VICTORS, INTO SOMETHING LIKE THIS.

Just, woah. If Suzanne would used the hobby-thing like that, I wouldve actually liked the idea. But she didnt work it gurl, you did. That model thing with the arena in an abandoned liberary. Omg. I so can see Janaff doing that. AND THEN HOW YOU LINKED ALL THESE TRIBUTES WITH ALL THESE CHARACTERS!

YOU. HAVE. TO. TELL. ME. WHO. IS. WHO. MYGOD.

I can't, so I'm not going to try.

It was just purely, utterly perfect conclusion for every bit of the story. For Janaff's storyline, (for the other tributes storyline you made the previous chapter, which was so so amazingly done and which I will review later) for the storyline of the fairytales, just woah, and for the entire games as a whole. Like just Janaff with his crazy imagination creating the arena and tributes with books, I can't think of a better conclusion, really.

BUT THERE IS MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE.

You could've left the rebel-storyline out, and it would be perfection! 3 BUT IT WAS MORE THEN PERFECTION.

JANAFF IS THE PIPER, JANAFF IS THE FREAKING PIPER. HE IS A REBEL, HE WILL REBEL, THE CAPITOL DIDNT GIVE HIM WHAT HE WANTED, HE WILL TAKE IT.

Gurl, how can you not planned this out from the beginning. With Taralo as the Juniper kid, with Janaff as the piper.

Zeus too is amazing. I'm so looking forward to the extra storyline we're going to get for the next games. It's just perfection with the pied piper and the rebel en the grimm games AND EVERTHING I CANT EXPRESS THIS IN WORDS WHY IS LIFE SO DIFFICULT MYGOD.

Okay, take a deep breath, calm down.

This ending, was perfect on every level. I love how you put in the fairytales until the very last moment, that's an understatement. You just concluded it with a beautiful, pink, unicorn tsunami of fairytales and in particular, linked Janaff and his entire story to the piper.

"I'm going to come along and pipe away everything your Capitol holds dear."

This story was amazing, every little bit, from the tributes to the mentors, to the gamemakers, to the arena, the events, the Grimm-storyline, the winner, everything. And I thank you so much for writing it. There's a million things I still want to say about this chapter, many more to say about the entire story, but I can't possibly put all those feelings into this review. You just have to believe me that I'm a huuuuuuuuge fan of your story and you as a writer, it is one of my favourite works of fiction I've read. Maybe even my favourite.

Thank you, and lastly, I bow down deeply and can't express how much I look forward to your next marvelous story.

LeviAntonius

PS: I will review the secondary part of this chapter in my review for the first chapter of the sequel.
