Damm. This shit’s heartbreaking.

I mean, I’m the original ver. I didn’t really feel it for Jacob. The details are a bit fuzzy, t’was bout five years ago that I read it, but damm. I never really felt like they had a shot. There wasn’t a single moment that I went “Huh. They’re kinda cute.” But with Ruth and Lucas? They’re so cute! Damm, I so ship them. She’s just so good for him, and she’s super in tune with him, and Lucas could be right for her, too. In another life. But Mary exists, so it can’t be. And now that I’ve seen just how deep Ruth’s feelings run, and I’ve fallen for the way you write her, for the optimistic mechanic, I dread the heartbreak that’s yet to come.

And those are my feelings for chapter three. (I could’t help it. Your writing is just so good!

Loved loved loved this. :) It really did make me think about not just the gender swap aspect but also the way we (as fans) have viewed and interpreted and analyzed the characters of Twilight during and after its fame peak. And in my fangirl-esque news: Ruth is my new favorite Twilight character :) So thank you for that!

Aw Ruth :( Ugh I really want them to get together. Like way more than I ever wanted Jake and Bella to (I was very very pro Edward during Twilight's prime). Ruth/Jake is just so likeable and seeing it this way as "Ruth" really shows me just how much Bella broke Jake :( Ugh...

this was so fucking good- I'm not even into twilight like I used to be but this is everything. I wish Ruth and Lucas worked out

I'm not done with this story yet but I think one of the major things I noticed is that Lucas is willing to stop the marriage to Mary (while Bella also didn't care about marriage was not willing to stop) because Lucas does not have the same anxieties as Bella about aging. it really speaks volumes about how people view relationships between an older man with a younger woman vs an older woman with a younger man.

Mm. Interesting ideas here. For a series so embedded in the patriarchy/gender dynamics and roles of traditional men and women, a gender swap in this case actually makes for a very interesting read. I particularly enjoy the (meta) double standard of the Pack giving Lucas utter shit for messing around Ruth when (of course) in the books Bella is at worst gullible and confused. Doesn't particularly make me sympathetic for 'canon' Jacob, mind. Not quite.

This was excellent. And pissed me off in a serious way about gender identities and societal pressure and all that bullshit. But your story was great and your characters solid and complex and fantastic.

Also, I hate Edward. And Mary.

This story was beautifully written out. Your characterisations of the gender swapped equivalents of Bella, Jacob and Edward are amazing - somehow the unhealthy dynamics of the relationships were even more obvious in your story. The ending (and your explanation for it) just fit so well. An absolute pleasure to read.
