Sand-wolf579 chapter 1 . 6/20/2015 Crane really is very amazing...why is it he's the only one who does not see it? |
Renapizo chapter 1 . 11/30/2014 Nice! This was really a heartwarming fic. This has potential to become a longer one, maybe, if you would expand on the CranexMei relationship. It's really not done that much. Great fic nonetheless. |
Aronim chapter 1 . 8/5/2013 This is great. Almost inspirational to someone with a personality much like Crane's. Well done. One thing though. You mention nerve point attack. It might be me interpreting it wrong, but Tai Lung's "he didn't teach you everything" seems to imply that the paralyzing attacks were kept from the students coming after Tai Lung. Your scene obviously takes place before the first movie, so I think it would make more sense if they didn't use an attack that apparently surprises them in the movie, when this takes place before. |
Synchronized Harmony chapter 1 . 11/21/2012 I love this! It's so sad and meaningful, yet happy and triumphant at the same time! Very satisfying! |
RageRunsStill chapter 1 . 10/1/2012 Nothing else to say. I loved it. K.A. |
Izzyaro chapter 1 . 3/5/2012 I really, really like this. You've captured Crane's personality perfectly. |
marmalade chapter 1 . 1/14/2012 The title says it all. Excellent work. |
marlinowl chapter 1 . 1/9/2012 It's a good thing I infrequently check for any backlog of stories, or I might have missed out on this one. As far as Crane-centric fics go, I'd say that this is probably one of the best I've had the pleasure of reading. Intermingling sections of the existing storyline along with your own portrayal of what could have happened in the little gaps where we don't see much of an otherwise background character strikes a pretty large chord with me. It's pretty much what fanfiction is made for in the first place, I think. A story you did paint verily, and I appreciate having something to read that makes me smile in a manner not common when I look through the content on this site. The gradual shift in his level of confidence was almost as clear as a meter itself, but shaped into the style of a story, his introspection against how others look upon him. The mood pretty much set itself for many of the story segments; whether this was intentional or not isn't important because it worked largely in your favour. I'm going full out with this because you probably can just look over previous reviews I've given regarding your strengths that I admire already and for the default compliments others have already paid. It's sort of a personal challenge as well, so let's go. Symbolism seems to be a key element in this particular work - the hat, the broom, the flag, all of which seem to mean something to him. The first is obviously the main idea throughout the entire fic, but oddly its significance gets lost or obscured easily because of the mystery that surrounds it from the very start. Looking through the rest of the piece doesn't do much to clear it up, and I'm left to ponder exactly what the hat means to Crane. Ambiguous sentiment diminishes what is supposed to be an important part of the fic. His story? Why is it so? Bring it forward, explain, stick a neon sign on it if it comes to that, because I can hardly think of it as an intricacy since it pops up in key segments. It has to mean something, and I feel like I'm missing out on the larger picture here when it's used to begin and conclude the fic. That's an excellent technique, by the way. Dialogue continues to be written incorrectly in some areas, but not all of them, so keep trying. To pick out a few: Wrong - "You're better than me now." She comments, when they both settle down on the edge of the empty arena. Wrong - "No, I'm not." He argues. Wrong - "You should try out for the school." The voice continues. Correct - "Everyone in their right mind should have faith in you if they knew what you were capable of." She smiled. Correct - "Hey," Monkey pipes up. Correct - "Have faith in your own abilities." Mei Ling stands up, and reaches out a paw to help him up. Subject-verb agreement error here: "But then again, his fragile build and skinny legs is not made for being anything more than a janitor." 'Are', not 'is', because you're referring to more than one thing. Try your best not to repeat uncommon words like 'paralyzed' and its derivatives, because reusing old descriptions tones down the quality of the writing. I feel unsatisfied with the words used so far because your work could be so much more colourful with more advanced vocabulary. Challenge yourself to use a wider range of words and phrases instead, because a large word bank will freshen up your writing and impresses a lot better. I have to give credit for this little bit, though: "Tigress is a hurricane amongst the bandits, delivering stunning punches and explosive kicks." I forget at times that magic realism is a core plot element of the fandom, but little quirks like these pull me out of being a snooty stickler for entirely realistic descriptions. I can hardly imagine an 'explosive' kick in real life, but we are talking about a fandom where Chi attacks are hardly rare, and adipose tissue can be used as an augmentative weapon. Thank you for the timely reminder! In conclusion, great job, but you could be phenomenal with this. I'm not going to erupt into all the proofreading errors I found like usual, because it's something I'm trying to avoid. Work on dialogue, story elements and word choice, and remember how to play your strengths. Fourteen years of age only? You put so many others to shame, and that's saying something. |
the mizter chapter 1 . 1/5/2012 This story just made my inner Crane fanboy shed a tear of joy. I think this happens to be the kind of fanfiction that makes up for the lack of character exploration in the KFP movies. Crane was nailed in character (from what the movies and short films give us) pretty well in this story and it was very pleasing to read how you carried the topic of confidence through him. And the way you bookend the story with Crane's hat was a pretty cute detail too. Perhaps my only little inconveniences with the story were that the snippets on the story could have been written around the same length each to give the story a little more balance (so we didn't have a snippet of four lines following one of thrice as much). I also think that more moments in Crane's life could have been covered, but even then you covered pretty good events of him, so the story pieced itself greatly without leaving any awkward gaps. Kudos for your story! It was cute and pretty meaningful. |
OceansGratitude chapter 1 . 12/26/2011 I love the way Crane connects all the important events in this story to his hat. I never though of it thtat way before! Very cute. Crane is my favorite of the furious five. I like him even better than Po! |
loosenings chapter 1 . 12/26/2011 This was really good. I liked how you kept the rice hat in every scene, as if it was its own character. The battle scene wasn't rushed through - you showed what was happening to every member of the furious five. And most of all, the way you kept Crane in character and depicted him was awesome. It was a great introspection into his insecurity - not being confident - and how he overcame it :). |
Charlie B.Barkin chapter 1 . 12/26/2011 Impressive, you're a very skilled author, the grammar was excellent and the plot simple and entertaining...and Crane is my work with the one-shot, hope to see more of this around here on the one thing..Mei Ling came with the "you're amazing"...but way later it was Viper,I wonder if you made a choice between her or Tigress or is just something else? |
