For me as a christian and a democrat, that was the best and most comprehensible summary of the answer to the question Combeferre put. To put it briefly: I love it! So very nice.

Wow. This is deep. I like it. I haven't finished reading the book Les Mis, so I can't judge whether they're in character, but it would make sense for them to be talking about the difference between a subject and a citizen, and the fact that they talk about it in a religious context is just beautiful.
