Funny how they shirked their duties to have another round of making love. It would've sounded better if they said they overslept.

They arrived late to the temple because they chose to have another round of sex instead. They might as well said they slept in. But then again at least they were honest. Apparently Shang is hot in more than one way. The thoughts running through Mulan's mind were funny too. That embarrassment and bashfulness following their night of passion. Big step in their lives and sounds like they'll enjoy the perks of married life.

I can only guess what corny comment her grandmother would make.

Everything I ever wanted from a more mature love scene with these two. Well done!

This doesn't have anything to do with ... anything, but how could she tell whether their morning will lead to a pregnancy so soon?
Now, that little detail put aside, LET ME HUG YOU!
It's refreshing, in addition of very precious, as far as I'm concerned - that you let them keep some of their dynamics from the army, even if she is no longer a soldier and they both know each other feelings.
I mean in the Disney sequel -as much as in most of the fan materials that I've seen- it seems that Mulan magically turn into a confident woman that behaves quite different from the Ping character. But it never really makes sense how that could happen.
Because, disguise and pretense or not, the time she had passed in the army must have conditioned her to some extent, given her instincts to be able to hide her gender "technical complications" for so long. Her voice, the way she walk, laughs, the worry about being found, the violence of the training and subsequent physical pain due to the lack of testosterone, there are as much aspects that would have made getting back into the shoes of a woman difficult. Added to the fact that she neither liked nor succeeded into conforming to the Chinese's expectations for women, which may have made her personality confused if not trapped between the roles of each gender.
And so it bothered me that Disney merrily ignored all of this to just turn the personality both the General's daughter and Ping into a demanding woman who behaved as if nothing traumatic happened and decided she was totally cool with treating her former captain as a sidekick. No mistake; I like strong women of all kinds. But Mulan's behavior in the sequel, and sadly also in many fanfiction, a Schizoph- I mean a woman-girl both very submissive and very stubborn, both self doubting and overconfident just doesn't totally feel right.
That may be just my interpretation. I can understand that there have serious chances for her to get some mental disorder from the ordeal - which would be great character development- but everyone treat her behavior as if it's logical and right. As a feminist, it just kind of creeps me out. As a Shang and Mulan shipper, I feel it downright annoying.
So I really appreciated the easy going way she made a reference to her time as a trainee as much as Shang in character reaction. :)
Thank you for writing this! I don't think any other story preserves their army dynamics at all so this is probably going to be my favorite Mulan fanfiction from now on!

PS: I know that Shang's character has been blown up much worse and beyond compare in that sequel too, but, well, it's so horrible, so...I'd rather beg you to bear with me and disregard that possessed version of him completely to spare the last shreds of his honor.
