This is really great. Everyone was pretty in character and the entire thing was interesting. I liked how you had Petunia apologize. She was horrible to Harry and I don’t think a simple apology is enough but you also added that she would like to see him again, which I believe is a much better way to show him that she’s sorry. What I really wanted to say, and I’m sorry for getting off track, was good job and well done.

I always thought petunia was a bit of an nmom (narcissistic mother) and Vernon was either an ndad or an E (enabler) with LOTS of issues of his own. I seriously doubt that she would be so accepting of Harry and his friends, considering that he was the scapegoat AND an “extension” of the sister she was so jealous of. Harry and Dudley fit very well into the scapegoat/golden child archetypes. Something tells me that if Petunia had another child, she’d’ve abused it as much as she does Harry. She’s a raging narc, and she only uses Harry as an outlet for her narcissism; it’s just that now, she has a “valid” excuse in the eyes of Vernon and Marge (and the fandom that forgive her so readily for her shitty behaviour In the end). Either way, Vernon and the like would enable her.

It’s quite a bit of a sad story. I think Dudley knows that their love is conditional. That if one day he were to get magic and another child were to come along that was “perfect”, he’d be subjected to similar scapegoating. That’s why he bullies Harry, so he can stay in his parent’s favour. It’s common among golden children.

This was such a good story! I really enjoyed reading it. Most Dudley redemption fics that I've read focus on later in his life (as I'm also a fan of him having a magical child!) so this was a nice change of pace. It was interesting to see how he would behave directly after the events in book seven as opposed to many years later. I thought you did a really good job at showing Harry's hesitancy to return, as well as his forgiving nature. All of the characters were perfectly in character! Sorry that this is a bit of a long, rambling review, but I just wanted to tell you all of the reasons why I loved your story!
