Wow. I don't usually read Maiko, but I have to say - this is good. Zuko is in character, and you really captured his thoughts and emotions as he left. I can imagine him wondering how Mai would feel about him leaving, because she's so indifferent about most things.

I don't really like the word choice, "wee hours of the night". Also, in the third-to-last sentence, you said "live" when I think you meant "life."

Overall, good job. Keep writing!
