This is hands down on of my favorite TF2 fanfic stories, not only on this site, but in general. And I don't give out praise easily. But your writing is fluent, your characters feel true to the TF2 canon, and you subtly weave little details into the tapestry of friendship that binds these men together. A great character study both for the Engineer as a family man and for the Medic/Heavy relationship. Even on subsequent readings it's still great.

I'm looking forward to a sequel. But please never feel pushed to write anything just because your readers clamour for it (a common bane with fanfiction). Only write it if you feel comfortable with how the story is going. :)

One nitpick: Incorrect spelling in "mein Fruend", it should read "mein Freund". (But points for using proper capitalization and diphthong in "mein"!) So many non-native speakers of German ignore the capitalization rules or umlauts, or mix up diphthongs like au, ei, ai, eu. In German, "ei" and "ie" are distinct phonemes and not interchangable. If I had a cent for every time I've seen people spell "Einstein" as "Einstien"... *cough*

This chapter (as the rest of the story) does not suck at all. Just the right amount of friendship fluff about the camaraderie these men have developed over the years, without getting sappy.
This chapter, and the preceding one, is a well-written, neat bit of character study for the Medic, paralleling the previous insert of the Engineer's home life. The only regret I have is that, with Chapter 9 and 10 of this story existing, I now have no reason to write my own fanfiction about the Medic's past, of hiding his sexual orientation as a young surgeon in 1930s Germany, anymore. My mind had gone into the exact some direction: He would have been married, maybe even joined the Party, simply to hide what he is, because the minute someone found out he'd be thrown in jail, castrated, or shipped off to one of the camps.

Alright, I honestly forgot that Engineer was out with Sniper.

Maybe the Medic scenes were long, but I felt that you developed both Medic's and Engineer's story very well. It's an interesting way to weave two rather seperate stories together, honestly.

The titledrop was - very appropriate. Honestly? I felt a little bit of goosebumps as I read that one line. In the end, the ending wasn't what I imagined it to be, but as it is, it's incredibly well done.

It was so lovely, and I truly hope you plan on starting another story with as much depth and beauty as this one, because I really did find it beautiful. You have a fantastic voice.

That being said, Sniper is a horrible corrupting influence on poor innocent Engineers and someone should make a PSA about him.

I enjoyed this so much and so very glad that you're going to continue with the Medic and Heavy. Their stories were always the most interesting for me in this fic. Looking forward to reading more from you!
