This points up how much Kirk and Spock are really alike, doesn't it... both rule-breakers, one just more flamboyant than the other.

That's the cool thing about being an adult - to a large extent, you get to pick which sets of rules you're going to follow. Unfortunately, there are so many who tend to forget that.

I love this little insight into Spock, and yes, I agree that to a certain extent he's always been a rebel and insisted on doing things his way. It's part of what makes him so wonderful.

Oh, Spock. He will always be such a wonderful character. Nimoy brought such real artistry and humanity to him and really underlined the feeling of "other" and the struggles most of us experience in some way or another when we are on the outside. And damn skippy he was a rebellious badass. *Spock love*. If you get the chance in your TOS rewatch, the couple eps with his struggle with feelings for Nurse Chapel are great.
