Reviews for Young Justice: Red X
Guest chapter 12 . 7/11
Same plot every time. Bad guy shows up, your MC has an idiot ball/“unexpected” villain attack hurts him, some other impediment like a low power of his suit (a suit he never uses when he could anyways), only for a deus ex machine like surprise taser/raven/justice league to show up. It’s just repetitive and the MC feels like nothing more than your attempt at self inserting to be pulled along by the plot.
Guest chapter 3 . 7/10
Seems like author fiat. Why wouldn’t the standard setting not be human rated? Tasers don’t even go lethal... author fiat to create angst and drama.

Wow. Just absolutely WOW. This is fic is honestly so incredibly well done it's amazing. You are obviously so talented as a writer and a plot outliner and I'm so jealous XD. Seriously though this is so good, I just read this in like three hours and it's so GOOD! I really hope you continue this fic, since you said you've come back. Honestly, don't sweat it; I'm super lazy too, so I get your pain. That being said, please, please, PLEASE come back and finish this, it is, again, SO GOOD. It's so popular, it's one of the most popular fics I've seen in this section of and I can't wait to see where you go with this. Honestly, YES I ship X and Raven so much, PLEASE have them become a thing, I will love you forever. Also, can Raven please punch Wally at some point for being a creep XD? This is such a good fic, I REALLY hope you continue this. Take your time and come back when you're ready, I know you'll do AMAZING. I'm cheering you on in the stands!
Lots of love 3

Key and WolfStar-SCA chapter 17 . 4/16
It was a fun read, and I know it's old and all, but I really got to say the best parts were where you broke away from cannon and did something original. Maybe it's just me, but I've never really liked stories that say "well, what if so-and-so was there also?" and then have the scenes play out exactly the same with so-and-so just happening to be in the background without participating in anything so the scene can play out "properly". The whole point of putting so-and-so into the scene in the first place is to show how they act and react and add to the dynamics of what's going on. I like it best where the characters affect things and the writer comes up with how the same general information of the scene gets across while letting the characters add something new. For instance, for the whole of the chapter that the team faced off against the twister robot, other than the occasional line of dialogue sprinkled here or there-mainly in the fight at the end of the chapter-Red X may as well have not been present at all. It was really hard to keep reading that chapter when it was basically just "and this is what happened in this episode..." It would have been nicer to see a Red that stepped up more and showed how his relationship with the different team members was starting to bud and develop. You had said that you intended for a close relationship to form between him and Conner, as both didn't really "belong", and it would have given a chance to show why Aqualad and the others had been so willing to accept X for their leader and why it meant something to Kaldur when X pointed at him instead and why he would put such faith in him to repeatedly look to him for confirmation about his every choice during Artemis's episode. You could have hit all the same beats (they're mad about being babied, they want to prove themselves, they don't want to be stuck in the cave all the time) while giving X the light of experience and more of his classic self (he wants to run drills, he points out their lack of teamwork, he doesn't feel they're actually ready, thus he's the odd-man-out and the others are fighting him and don't want to listen, resulting in them dismissing him during the fight, etc). I get that you're going for a bit more of a brooding loner type with him, but brooding loners don't make leaders, no matter what fiction and media might say. If you don't talk and take charge and tell others how to get the job done, no one's going to follow you because you aren't going anywhere they CAN follow.

But, those were just a few chapters that were a bit rough and a suggestion of how they maybe could have been handled and worked in character building moments better. The early chapters before the start of the show and this last chapter was all really good because you let the characters added change the events while still keeping the basic plot (bad guys look for the helmet, kidnap the old man, the kids go to retreive it, the old man dies, there's a fight over the helmet, bad guys loose because of the cat, the end). I'd love to see more original arcs from this, like the whole auction thing. It would also maybe be fun to throw them up against one of the Titans villians that never made it into the show. Remember, X still turned his back on Batman and lost faith in the Justice League. It could be fun to do something like him finding the trail of one of his old baddies that the League doesn't deem worthy of their time because they have bigger fish to fry and so he makes his own mission and drags them out to take a wacky insane enemy down that isn't as dangerous but with the intent that they learn to work better as a coherent group, followed by fallout conciquences due to X "endagering the sidekicks without League approval" and so forth. Maybe to act as a further catalyst to everyone feeling that he really can't be left to run wild and needs to be brought under SOMEONE'S wing before he gets the other kids hurt or worse, leading to an active attempt by the League to put him under Batman's care and mentorship. Or maybe another Leaguer is willing to step up to the plate for the kid-without-a-mentor that leads to further conflict down the line becaue Batman feels teritorial over X for some reason and starts butting heads with his new "mentor". I don't know, just some ideas I thought I might throw out there that could maybe get the plotbunnies breeding again.

Also, one last critique on the Red/Raven situation... While I'm definately in the park of "they are not romantically involved, their love for each other is purely platonic-brother/sister-type-stuff", I also don't feel they express enough need/desire for each other. They are lost in a world where everything around them is strange and wrong, with potentially no way to ever return home and see their loved ones again. In this place, the only thing that is familiar is each other, everything else is at least slightly off in that uncanny-valley sort of way that never lets them be completely at ease and is always reminding them that they are not home and will likely never be again. Sure, they are adapting the best they can, but they would still be borderline desperate for that one thing that was RIGHT in the world and made SENSE to them. And I get you're trying to show how X acts with the YJ cast and not just all with Raven, but there would also be the aspect to build to him (and her, but she didn't have to face the world alone like he did for those few months) showing his dependance on her. I think he'd be extremely over-protective after she had killed herself, being desperate to keep her close to know she's really there but also determined to keep her as much out of harms way as he can manage. Totally in character for TT!Robin to be overbearingly protective of his team to the point of obsession to ensure that they are kept safe. People could assume they're dating because of how he hovers and tries to shield her from everything/everyone, and they could get into a big fight when she's decided enough is enough and it's time he remembers just why she was one of his most trusted allies and puts him in his place, leading to him having to face himself and admit he was wrong to go so far with it, thus character growth. Or she could become overwhelmed by all the pressures of being surrounded by hundreds of hormonal, excitable teens all day every day and starts loosing control because she can't deal with it-there are reasons she didn't social in the show, four roommates were shown to be almost too much for her and THEY understood why getting overly emotional around her wasn't a good idea-and she needs some because-we-know-each-other-so-well thing to help her that only Red knows to get. Like her mirror that she uses to detach her emotions from that one episode where BB and Cy get stuck in it cause they went to her room uninvited. Or at the very least a scene where they actively remove themselves from the rest of the team/League so they can just be themselves and she can hear his voice without the modifier and all kinds of stuff like that and talk about how much they miss everyone and just be together and stuff. You can even do this whole thing where the team is divided: do they snoop and try and spy on them to find out more or do they respect the pair's privacy and let them have their moment? Maybe they don't go far enough away and Supes overhears them and has to make the decision to tatle on them or not. Maybe people assume they're on a date and want to spy on them for that reason, rather than thinking that they're just hanging out and being THEM for once without any secrets. Maybe someone like Wally does interupt them because he selfishly wants to spend time with "the pretty goth" and it turns into this big thing where the two keep trying to find a way to have their moment keep getting interupted by SOMETHING each time (Wally, mission, Canary, etc). Or, pulling it back to building a team, the pair could go wander off to train together on some of their old team-moves that they used to have, to try and work in Red X's new tallents or Canary's new training techniques and the initiative of them working as a unit inspires the others (such as Robin and Aqualad, who are of the right mindset) and whatever league members that they should all have such team-combo moves. Because TT!Robin is a hardass that won't be satisfied with the slightest imperfections in himself or his team and pushes himself to train nearly constantly when he's not on mission or researching villians. It would do the story good to show WHY he's so much better than the others-he never stops pushing himself to improve, sometimes to an unhealthy level-because a person who has been brainwashed to never see themselves as good enough (as you've discribed Batman to have done to him) WILL never be content with their own faults and will either fall into a pit of depression or will drive themselves to their breaking point. Red is the latter sort. I can also kinda see Robin, desperate to prove himself to try his best to keep up and copy this stranger that he finds himself oddly looking up to for some reason. After all, Batman's certainly impressed with him, so he can't be THAT bad of a big-brother-figure, right?
